Oppo Camp Jack Ginnivan (Traded to Hawks 2023)

Given that Ginni is a Cox Plate ambassador, it's seems more about the horses for him than it is about gambling.

“Cox Plate Eve Ambassador”, LOL.

Like being the spokesperson for AFLX.

He said he is off to Bali 7am tomorrow for a week with a few of the boys + Cal and Tyler.
He's getting braids in his hair when he gets there haha

After his short trips, he is getting to work and getting fit before pre-season starts.

Also said he wasn't sure he would get back in the side, but backed himself in. Said that time in the VFL was exactly what he needed, even though the role he was playing was a bit different, More forward/mid, which he felt he adapted to.

I would imagine some see horse racing as a "sport" and betting is simply part of it but not the sole purpose to horse racing as there's still the element of sport, training, breeding, etc.

In reality, horse and greyhound racing exists purely for betting purposes. There is no "industry" without gambling. The money seen in horse racing dries up without betting and people wouldn't turn out to watch it if the thrill of gambling wasn't attached. At the moment, it's the money that allows the animal welfare issues to be more or less ignored. Because they very much exist.

This isn't an issue isolated to Jack but the AFL industry has an uncomfortably close association with the racing scene and the subsequent ties racing has with bookies. Given both have strong roots in Victoria, it's not to be unexpected.

If Jack likes racing, that's his choice but horse racing and sports betting are synonymous and rely on each other so by promoting one, you are promoting the other.

so people are getting upset that ginnivan is associating himself with racing and yet the AFL and various media organisations are on a drip feed from betting organisations....

the world puzzles me sometimes, specifically the "morals" of the social media crowd.
It's a sign of a bigger issue. Jack's not the only player on our list to promote racing. Nick Daicos posted something last year on Instagram. Most Victorian AFL players have connections to racing and are seen promoting it. Bar Ben Brown, I couldn't name a current player who wouldn't be at the races. Jack doesn't need to become the face of another campaign where his involvement is blown up.

Betting is legal. Players shouldnt bet on AFL games because it will lead directly to corruption. Jack is the same as any other kid of 20 odd who has too much money. If he was a politician's son, would you like him not to bet? There are a lot more people who have closer relationships to making decisions about sport, who have associations with betting companies.

If you are talking about Jack as a role model, then you should have been carrying the banner 30 years ago. The kids of today bet on everything. Advertising is everywhere. The horse has bolted....

It's legal. I'd prefer for it not to be advertised. Smoking is legal. It's not advertised. As a kid of today, I'm well aware that gambling extends to almost anything but that doesn't mean we need to help inspire kids to place bets.

Gambling is dumb. A follow magpie fan and myself invested $400 on brisbane on grand final day because we wanted to lose. We are both losers in life and we thought we could weigh down brisbane......and it worked......The last time I bet was when I put $50 on st. kilda. If betting firms wanted to exploit this effect, then I would probably be sucked in more.

If kiddies want to "bet with mates" and become popular and sexy, then I think the gambling industry has already done it's job. I dont doubt the effects of "influencers". I laugh in some ways that this form of advertising works. People need to look at themselves rather than blaming people like Jack.

I think the club are wanting Ginnivan to transition into a midfield role in the future. I heard him talk in an interview post grand final about a defensive midfield role. 185cm / 85kg, he has a bigger frame than I realised - still just 20 years old. The penny dropped for him this year and I think he will have a big preseason working on his tank.

Whether it's the right or wrong positioning for him, I feel that is the direction he is going, especially with the talk of Schultz, who would clearly be above Ginnivan in our system as a small forward.

What Jack's got going for him is, he has footy smarts and very talented, not afraid to put his over the ball.
I like the idea of him developing into a midfield type role.

The bottom line is he needs to be good enough to get a game, he has to make himself best 22, he’s no different to anyone else we bring into the Club.

Head down, arse up and become the rockstar footballer you think you are. Best of it

It feels a bit icky to me the way everyone is instantly writing off Ginnivan simply because Schultz might be coming to Collingwood

Kid worked his arse off to get back in the side and got there on the most important day of the year and has himself a Premiership Medal

At worst, there's this thing teams are supposed to have. It's called depth.
