Oppo Camp Jack Ginnivan (Traded to Hawks 2023)

Could have done the same with Didak, Swanny, De Goey etc
Or back the kid and support him

I'll give you Swanny but the other two were both top 5 draft picks and had twice the amount of natural talent at that age compared to Jack. You deal with off-field issues when talent levels are so high. Unfortunate but true... Just ask Sam Murray.

I chose to ignore it because it’s unlikely. Macrae isn’t replacing Adams of the half forward flank.
We were running a surplus mid this year - hence Adams playing so much up forward. Adams leaving creates an opportunity for Macrae - but only because he'll probably now get a game when one of our mids misses, which wasn't the case this year.

I realise I’m probably wrong on this and real late to the party, but Ginnivan moving is a real opportunity to potentially sell high. I’m still not sold on his scope for improvement and give him almost no chance of being a decent midfielder.

Reality is with Beau, Lachie (if he comes in), Hill, Elliot he’s not a required player, if you could get a second/future second from hawthorn if the rumour is true, it’s a good result.

It seems people find it hard to separate the personality of Ginnivan and the actual player.

To me his personality is fine, young and confident, will make mistakes but seems so loved by all around him, so must be a good kid.

His footballing ability is what I would question. Good skills, knows where the goals are but when he comes up against good defenders, he will struggle to get time and space due to his limited tank and speed. When was the last time the AFL had a successful small forward with Ginnivans leg speed?

If he was a marking target I could see the possibility he has an OK career, but his marking seems to be another weakness. Does he ever mark the ball in his hands?

I can see why he has been talking about transforming into a mid, as imo its his only long term role option given his lack of speed.

But he also doesn't really have a quality knack of winning the ball and becoming part of, or starting a quick ball movement chain. He is so used to looking to draw the free kick, he actually stunts our ball movement often. He would need to lose, or significantly reduce the use of this most famous habit to be successful in the role.

I've definitely been wrong before about players, but I'd say Ginnivan would be off AFL lists in 2 years and I would be very surprised if other clubs were interested in him.

I think he's got mid potential. It's not likely to be a quick transition, as he's got a lot to improve, but he's got game sense, thinks quickly, clean hands and puts his head over the footy. They're the traits that mids need. But yes there needs to be a significant change to approach as at the moment he doesn't look to give to teammates in a chain because he's so used to being the finisher. I think that's changeable - Jordy used to be much the same.

There’s little to suggest the rumour is true. Respected media outlets have been adamant there is nothing going on.

Fair points and balanced ;)

Id say he has the runs on the board with that season two years ago. We need to persist with him, as he has some traits other footballers dont. Football IQ is massive , natural ability. Still only 20 , whilst the speed may be a limiting factor in being an elite player , i still feel there is room for him if he can really home in on his crumbing ability up forward and work up the field a tad more.

Not a lost cause and finished product as some may suggest

Hasn't this all reappeared due to the Tom Browne fake Twitter account?

We'd already shut it down. Again. Yesterday.

I'm not sure how more emphatic his manager can be. Even the journo's are not buying into it.

It's becoming so tiresome.

With an eye to the future, pendles and sidey will need to be replaced
I'm hoping we give the kids more of a run next year (if they come banging at the door), Mcrea, Reef, HH, Dean, Carmichael, Allan, would be good to give the old guys a bit more of a rest during the year.

I love how the appears the media have gotten some Ginni news from a fake twitter account, might as well call Trade Radio, Big Footy, cause they are just guessing like the rest of us.

It wasn't the media who got Ginni news from a fake Twitter account. It was posters on BF who continually quote known fake accounts. And still continue on with it, even after its pointed out to them, it's a fake Twitter account account 🙄

Loosely made position.
As most are these days.
Roam half forward I don’t care.
With a good pre season, fitter body, I still think he has scope.
Media just love, wanting to out pies players. Especially Jack.
I’m happy to retain thanks
I’m not saying to discard, just questioning if he’s the best option we have as a winger. Josh and Sidebottom are our wingers, with WHE, crisp, lipinski, hill, all running through there at times, not sure jack is better than them in that role.

It’s not about creating a spot for jack, he needs to demand one through form.

If he has a fantatic pre-season and he gets fitter than he has ever been, and his form warrants it; they'll find a spot for him.
Wouldn't be surprised if we see some change of positions in the preseason.

It mightn’t end up transpiring, but I heard it from a journalist.
Ive had messages from multiple journalists that said that nothing is happening there. Pete Ryan from the age said there has been zero clubs thats have enquired, and Ginni is intent on staying.
Jay Clark said he is staying yest on triple M

So maybe it was an option clubs thought about but decided not to waste their time.

I hope you are right. It would be really disappointing to lose a premiership player so soon after such a wonderful occasion.
