Oppo Camp Jack Ginnivan (Traded to Hawks 2023)

I hope you are right. It would be really disappointing to lose a premiership player so soon after such a wonderful occasion.
Yeah, I don't think there is anything happening here, and he clearly doesn't want to leave and is backing himself in to win a spot in the team. This is the kind of attitude you want from players.
They want him to get fitter than he ever has been in his life, and hit the ground running day 1.

I’m not saying to discard, just questioning if he’s the best option we have as a winger. Josh and Sidebottom are our wingers, with WHE, crisp, lipinski, hill, all running through there at times, not sure jack is better than them in that role.

It’s not about creating a spot for jack, he needs to demand one through form.

The answer is no he is not better than them in that role. He'd blow up at half time trying to cover the same ground.

Announcing he wants to play midfield next year when Adams (or Finn) couldn't get in there this year but Ginnivan apparently will because he just decided he wants to.

His role is inside F50 and he needs to be spending the summer running with WHE or Lipinski.

Ive had messages from multiple journalists that said that nothing is happening there. Pete Ryan from the age said there has been zero clubs thats have enquired, and Ginni is intent on staying.
Jay Clark said he is staying yest on triple M

So maybe it was an option clubs thought about but decided not to waste their time.
Until next year.

Ginnivan was drafted in the same year as Macrae and McInnes. He got a Brownlow vote in his last H & A game and did well as sub in two finals. We'd be wetting ourselves with excitement if Reef or Finn had've done that. His main issue on here seems to be that he's played some good AFL footy and is thus viewed as a finished product, like so often happens with young kids who are good enough to cut it early.

Who knows if he makes it long term, but he's had a very good start to his career.

Thats very true. And coming from being a rookie too.
He still has a long way to go, physically and growing up to do. He can be as good as he wants to be, just all between the ears. He can sometimes divide opinions from fans and opposition, but I think it's fairly obvious we have a good one here. One that needs to be nurtured as he develops.
Big pre-season coming up, if he can get himself right, confidence and all, he'll be just fine. I certaintly be looking forward to pre-season begins and keep an eye on his journey for his 4th year in the system (feels like he has been around for much longer, when you get the reputation he has lol)

I think we blame his 2022 year for the perception that people see him as the finished product, but I don't think he will be the finished product for a number of years. I'd say 3-5 more years.

Kingy and Dermie just gave Ginni encouragement to stay at Collingwood and they believe he will make it
Up to him now. Hoping he has a strong mind.
He won't play midfield overnight.
Fitness is extremely hard to build.
Freaks like Sidebottom, WHE and the upcoming Edward have been doing this for a very long time.

Just saw that, and they made total sense. Just because a player is coming in, doesn't mean you have to go out. He's a 20 year old growing and learning. He's actually in the best environment possible for him to grow. He'll learn a lot from this year, and reckon he has learned a lot already, and it'll only make him better.
He understands you can't survive on talent alone, but hard work is what will make you succeed -- that is how he became a premiership player. But he'll take the next step in his journey.

Thats true, he just needs a bit of patience and put in the hard work. If he keeps at it, little by little as he grows physically stronger and his body matures; the rest will come.

Seems he is heeding Fly's call to get fitter, to start pre-season off well so he isn't stuck behind the 8 ball catching like like last preseason.

Dermie was originally a Pies supporter and than played for us.
Just saying

Exactly

30 goals in 15 weeks and taught Savvy some forward craft

The problem is some keep pumping his tyres when it's obvious he's got a long way to go.

Pre draft he said he needed to get fitter. It's now 4 years on and it's the same discussion.

The hype and media coverage doesn't match the output and although he seems to enjoy it, it puts unnecessary pressure on him.

I think it happens for a lot of kids who play early. They're viewed as finished products without much improvement, whereas a lot of the ones who play later are viewed as blue sky potential until they've been good enough to play 30 or 40 games and then they're viewed as finished product as well and some other bloke in the VFL is going to go straight past them, etc... The cycle of expectations.
