Traded Jack Gunston [Traded to Hawthorn in Swap of Ryan and picks]

Cooked - retire with some dignity.

Brissie will be stoked to escape from a year of that silly 2 year deal they gave him though - I’m sure they’ll be very ‘understanding’.
He was probably told he’d be playing 2024 in the VFL

How biased are Hawthorn fans?
Defend anything the club does without fail. No decision is ever wrong. 😂
What have Hawthorn done here exactly, pray tell?

Yes it did. Have you quickly deleted the post? You were very upset about it.
You have a reputation for lying. Just grow up and own it.
Absolute rubbish, and you know it.

You made the same claim 3 months ago and couldn’t back it up then either.

North to give up a future first for him?

If Brad Scott was still there, yeah.

Seriously though. Seems an odd choice. At best a VFL player/developmental coach would have thought.

Club hasn't done anything yet and it sounds like even the club has been surprised by it

It's embarrassing on his part. Played cooked all year. Contracted for another year but sooks it up because he wasn't given a gig towards the end of the year and probably told that based on his output, he's fighting an uphill battle to return to senior selection.

That's an awful take. He might be at the end but he is not a "sook".

In fact, do you realise there were multiple reports that Fagan was intending to pick him for the Prelim and Gunston told him not to. Told him he'd love to play but he should stick with what is working (after he already had dropped himself earlier in the year). Can't find the exact article but here's a similar one: ‘I know your dilemma’: Lions coach opens up on star’s ‘very selfless’ selection call

He also didn't go to Brisbane just to win a flag - he was already a key member in 3 of them. He went to Brisbane (and was emotional about leaving) because his father - who he was very close to - had died unexpectedly and he wanted a change of environment (as being around the club/Melbourne was too big a reminder). Perhaps you would call that being a sook (which I think is ridiculous) but he is not 'sooking about not getting selected". It was basically his call FFS.

Gunston is well known as one of the most selfless blokes going around.

I have criticised plenty when I feel the club has got it wrong… this is just crazy though. So many people melting over a random veteran on what would be a 1 year deal for next to no currency

anyway can see this is a completely unnecessary trade.
the guy struggled big time playing in one of the best attacks in the league getting excellent service from a dominant midfield. he'll offer nothing to hawthorn that he couldn't as a coach. standing on the field and directing players where to stand isn't a sufficient reason to pick him in your 22 or bring him back.

absolute champion of the game but it makes absolutely no sense to bring him back.

It would go against pretty much every (good) principle and decision Mitchell has made so far.
I am torn. I like the direction Mitchell has taken, but our young forwards do seem to not be coming on as quickly as our mids and backs. Maybe Jack coaches them up a bit on the field?

Cap filler. Development coach. Romance.

Even if he play 90% of the season at Box Hill, there’s plenty of reasons to get around a favourite son coming back to the club and filling a list spot when we’re the youngest list in the comp and not competing for a flag.

Hawthorn: No room for Titch who stars in the 2023 premiership side because they are going for youth
Also Hawthorn: let's get Gunston to clog our list in 2024

Hawthorn with Mitchell = Number 18 ranked midfield in the AFL.

Hawthorn without Mitchell = Most promising midfield in the competition and up on most comparable statistics from the previous season.

Just enjoy your new premiership hero and we'll enjoy our rising stars. It's a win-win if you don't make yourself look foolish with comments like that.

The only team i could see offering a minimum wage 1 ywar contract is Melbourne. But isnt he on half decent money for this year at Brisbane ?

If we have to pay his salary or give up picks to facilitate a trade, we might as well retain him for a year as insurance behind Daniher and Hipwood. We've traded Fullarton already to Dees** so Gunston is pretty much our most experienced reserves forward.
