Feel some are being very harsh on Luko here. Don’t think the comparisons to Watts are reasonable.

Kicked 40 goals last year as a forward.

Kicked 19 goals in the second half of this season when he went forward again, so again would have been a 40 goal year if he played forward all year.

That’s while playing for GC who although improved, don’t have the midfield we do driving the ball forward.

No reason he won’t continue to be a 40-50 goal forward next to Georgiades.

If we can have them both going at 50 goals a year, that’s a huge improvement to our forward line and will cause a lot of issues.
That's a pretty good point made about his second half of the season and kicking 19 of his 23 goals.

If Lukosius had a good year as a forward in 2023 they wouldn't have started him in defence in 2024.

You know who else kicked 40 goals in 2023? Finlayson. and by the end of it we were sick of seeing him

The SUNS board certainly aren't big fans. Amongst other things he's been labelled soft, can't take a contested mark and predicted to be our new whipping boy.

1.75 goals a game once he shifted forward though. Contested marks are overrated, in a dynamic forward line you can take marks on the lead.

Look forward to several weeks of boffins on this board and facebook telling me how much better off we'd be if we picked Ratugolea because "he provides a contest".

The lack of Luko excitement on here is disappointing...
I don't get it.

The idea of him either delivering the ball inside 50, or being the one on the end of that kick, is a pretty exciting thought.

We've already got plenty of competitive bulls who'll bust their boiler for the team, some blokes are just destined to be the cream on top and Lukosius will be exactly that.

Apart from Rioli we virtually have no players with composure or class forward of centre.

Davies mentioned the Bowes deal a couple years ago and said we may be looking to take on his Gold Coast salary and ‘buy’ a first round pick off of Gold Coast.
There's no way we get Luko plus a pick as part of a salary dump. Absolutely pants down lap around the table type stuff there.

I reckon we end up getting him for a future second.

I highly doubt the buying picks thing will happen.

At best we could advocate to slightly lower the pick value we give up to take on the big contract.

You seem to completely miss the fact that it wasn't a comparison between "provides a contest" vs "takes marks on the lead".

It was between "provides a contest" vs "watching the opposition defence waltz the ball out of the backline".

Yeah, if he takes 8 uncontested marks and kicks 4 goals does lack of contested marks matter?

It depends if those uncontested marks are from creating goal scoring opportunities with good leading patterns etc or just kicking Joe the Goose goals from other people's hard work.

Finishing is fine but you still need someone to do the work to create the opportunity.

Oh yeah good call I mean I don't remember any waltzing it out of our backline once we played good sides. Great choice.

Do you know what stops rebounding defenders? Actually taking a mark occasionally. If you are capable of getting some separation from your defender, you don't need to take a contested mark. It's a novel idea but I think it's worth pursuing.
