Traded Jaeger O'Meara [traded to Hawthorn for pick 10 and GWS's 2017 2nd rd pick]

Hawthorn over the past few years have been the benchmark at doing good and fair trades, but I cant recall you getting two players of the same rating (at the time of the trade, not now) as Mitchell and O'Meara in the same trade period. Whether or not you have enough to give in order to get the deals done is the big question.

Agree. The Hawks draft picks including next year are only good enough to be "steak knives" for either player. Let alone both.

So that would mean losing 4 good players as the Hawks will not trade a star.
I could see the Suns taking Sicily and McEvoy for JOM, but what players would the Swans take from the Hawks that they would accept? Hartung = big no.

Hawthorn don't have that pick at the moment and what player from their best 22 can they force out?

Hopefully Sicily. Then his ****ing punchable face won't be on Prime Time anymore.

Win-Win for football fans country wide.

:p

Jesus Lance its not hard. By now, players have already committed & agreed.... these are done months (even a year) in advance

Agents/Players/Clubs public narratives differ greatly to private ones.

You may well end up with him in the PSD but he isn't going through the process now of choosing his club - this has already been done. The time for clubs to sell their club to Jaeger has already passed... No doubt there are contingency plans but its extremely uncommon for players to not get to their desired location.
lol, you can "commit and agree" as much as you want, but until all 3 parties agree it is literally meaningless.

It's not hard

I put a scenario out there that GC get a better offer from another Melbourne club and ask why it would stay Hawthorn and you STILL come back with "this is how it's done, it happened like this before"

And not a BigFooty ITK.. Jaxons who is a lot more accurate than BS. Though BS and several other ITKs are all indicating now that Saints have gone cold on JOM. Opinions vary on which club he will go to though.

Steele while not confirmed is tipped to be a Saint if he actually does leave GWS.
fair enough.

At least it's not old BS. I have never seen an "ITK" get as much wrong consistently as him

A genuine option to get a trade done for O'Meara could be getting involved with a Lobb, McCarthy and Brad Hill to Fremantle trade as this opens up a plethora of options for draft picks and willing parties.
GWS (and Hawthorn to a lessor extent) have the players Fremantle want, they also have the picks Hawthorn need.
Fremantle may (don't quote me on it) have the players Gold Coast are interested in (Barlow and Weller) and Gold Coast has the player that "hopefully" Hawthorn want (O'Meara).

Where there's a will there's a way.
If O'Meara truly wanted to get to Essendon then why on earth would he be threatened with "trying his luck in the draft should a suitable deal not be struck".
Unfortunately nothing in life except death and taxes are guaranteed so again, I will only start celebrating "if" not "when" we land O'Meara.

I think we should stop arguing & just see what transpires.... none of us have any control or influence over the decision

You have to be joking, imagine how droll this place would be if we all agreed with each other.

It's healthy for BF that posters have differing opinions :thumbsu:

It makes perfect sense
Why is McEvoy unsigned for next year?

McEvoy and our first pick in 2017 for JOM

LOL

that wouldnt even get you his bad knee

McEvoy is widely tipped to retire at seasons end.
why? still playing well from the bits and pieces from what i have seen. always liked him.
I don't know about 'widely tipped' to retire.
There is a completely unsubstantiated rumour amongst Hawks fans that McEvoy will retire at years end. I am yet to hear anybody explain why, but I heard of the rumour last Saturday night. It's apparently been doing the rounds for a few weeks

Mcevoy retiring at 27!!? First I've heard of it. There may be other reasons behind the hold up.
As for jom, isn't it funny how when hawthorn get mentioned, people are so quick to slam the trade viability down with questions that could be asked of any old trade with other clubs! As if the hawks are some stupid coma induced dumb arses who are getting ready for the reaming! If Jaeger picks the hawks then the deal will be done and I'd be very surprised if it involves Sicily at all.

so GC will take an inferior offer from Hawthorn over a better offer from other clubs... why?

Only hearsay but sounds a very real possibility according to many over on our board.

There literally no basis to the rumour what so ever.

He just looks old and has played with an injury in the later part of the year = retire.

It would be a disaster if he retired. We have no other fit capable ruckman on our list.

If a club wants to offer O'Meara a long term deal worth good coin then they value him highly and need to cough up a decent pick and/or player.

Hawthorn don't have that pick at the moment and what player from their best 22 can they force out?

That needs to be taken into account. Their 1st pick will definitely not get it done. Maybe their 1st pick for next year might
Have very solid mail that if they win number 4 then forcing someone out will not be a problem as a couple of their current starting 18 will retire.

Hence our well publicised interest in Vickery AND Vardy.

Vickery is not a ruckman. Vardy is injured 70% of time.
Unfortunately neither of our thoughts on them matter.
I'm not saying that McEvoy will retire just started that he is tipped to retire which probably was the wrong wording to be honest as yes, it is only a rumour at this stage but he does currently remain unsigned for 2017 and beyond.

O'Meara would have to agree to go to another club. They can certainly endeavour to manipulate/encourage/pressure him to go to a club that they would prefer to deal with, but ultimately if he digs his heals in and doesn't agree they will be in a situation where they have to accept the best possible offer from the club of his choosing, or let him walk into the draft and accept nothing in return. They don't have the power to send him wherever they want
