I love all this "3rd best defender" stuff! :D

He wasn't moved out of defence because he was 3rd best back there was he? Wasn't it because your club felt he was the best of those 3 options up forward?

After all, he had just come 6th in the B&F (in 2013), at just 21yo and finished ahead of Hooker there (he came 9th) and there is no sign of Hurley in that top 10, so I would have thought he was at the time your no.1 "key defender" and he was also the youngest of the lot!

The other two have obviously gone past him since, but I think it's safe to say much of that is due to the failed experiment of playing Jake forward, which seemed to really mess with him.

Had he not wanted out of Essendon at pretty much any cost I dare say he would have continued to be one of the two key pillars of your backline, as he was at the end of this year, which would have freed Hooker up to continue playing forward, where he showed plenty this year and gave much needed support for Daniher.

Now you're back to square-one of trying to find someone who is able to support Joe there and kick some goals, so I'm not sure that is really something to be celebrating all that hard!
Nah nah you don't realize that Shaun Mckernan and Leunberger will now fill that FWD gap they both have 27 career goals each to there credit....

Fwiw I'm happy with the trade if we get 14 back. Still puts us in a good position to land a gun on draft day.

This - IMO getting 14 is much bigger than it looks on paper. There are always players in the 12 - 24 range who later turn out to be absolute 'steals' for their draft position. Our recruiters have done well in the draft the last few years and if they can snag a gun in that range then pretty much all the pieces of the puzzle will be in place for us.

One interesting thing is that it was reported a few weeks ago that someone from our football department said we thought the draft had two clear standouts this year and that it was then very even from 3-15, so if this trade goes through it leaves us with a pick in that 3-15 range that we supposedly rate, before it presumably drops off again.

GWS can get a better deal with Hawthorn for pick 8- 15+18 for pick 8

Don't think that trade can be done given the points value has to fall within a 200 point band.

Pick 8 (1551)

Pick 15 + 18 = 1112 + 985 = 2097

Which is a joke. If you want to pay the price who gives a shit?

Nothing on Social indicates anything has changed. TradeRadio talked about a potential trade with Carlisle was immanent with pick 5 involved but then went quite on it and never retouched on it, then signed off with nothing further to add.

The 200 point limit was mere speculation from an article that misunderstood that pick 8 would likely be live.

I don't think the AFL will be stopping any mutually beneficial pick swaps.
