My last comment on the issue is that I can't really fathom how the sledging towards Murphy was perceived to be so foul & disgusting in the media, yet not one Carlton player stood up for Murphy throughout the game even though they were in earshot of the alleged disgusting comments all game.

It appears to me that it was all just part of the back & forth banter throughout the game & it didn't really warrant any players 'standing up' for their teammate until Marc Murphy decided to perform his drive-by sledge to an injured Carlisle, which prompted Geary into action to stand up for his mate who was not in a position or state to reply at the time. It's quite obvious with the way both clubs have wanted to move on quickly that there was foul sledging & banter going both ways.

I commend our leaders for the way they stood up for their teammate.

I hope that you 've said that the saints hierarchy

Carlisle copped it and Murphy can cop it back. Unless you want to get every sledge unearthed and start dictating where the line should be, STFU and play judge and jury in your own living room.

I love the fact Carlisle is playing good football. He gave a comment back but you high horse posters and media are treating it like he announced it to a newspaper. Murphy isn't innocent. He stood over an incapacitated player and sledged him again. This is just deflecting his own weak behaviours.

You obviously need to go to supersavers ,, he hardly stood over him ! Ran past him quite quick actually and gave him a spray as he did so. Just glad you weren't one of those w***ers that had posted they were on level 2 and clearly saw Smurph spit on Jake.

Let's put it this way, if Carlisle was saying 'Player x ****** ya missus', he's just stating a fact. Not sure Geary can pull someone up on a comment he knows is true
Even if Geary did pull him up, he wouldnt wait to go him while he is on the ground injured like a certain coward we know.

He disrespects someones wife and now he is your favourite Saint? Wow. There is a way to stick up for yourself in the right way without disrespecting someones wife. Behind closed doors, It would not surprise me if Geary put Carlisle's head through a locker, he seems to be a captain that would not take any crap from someone who brings the club down. Why bring attention to yourself and your club in such an even season where St.Kilda are a chance to win a flag? Pathetic Carlisle. Shut up and repay the faith St.Kilda showed in you.

I heard some stuff Brian Lake said to our players one night that would make Murphy need therapy. He was a master sledger and the Dogs fans were worse.

Sledging goes on all the time in footy. Why is Carlisle being vilified here?
Every game sledging of some type occurs.
All of a sudden its unacceptable?
People in the public draw the line and rub it away when they indirectly find the opportunity to do so.
Carlisle has been dragged through the mud. Victimised here... Easy target.
Agenda driven journos like Tim Watson leading this lynch mob see this as an opportunity not actual news.
How about players start suing each other for assault after they get into malee or get aggressively grabbed by the jumper? Why not? Its considered assault if it happens in the street. Why dont players sue for that type of thing? Answer that?
Gutless journos drawing lines when it suits them best.
Its victimisation.
Yep, this "scandal" is the most pathetic we have seen in footy: and that's saying a lot because there have been many and we've been on the end of most of them. As a supporter group we have to simply boycott the media and never forget what the continually and unfairly do to our club.

I was concerned when we got Carlisle. Frankly I would hope to avoid any Essendon players coming to us. Milne, Lovett & Carlisle, all gave us bad press, all ex Essendon.

Carlisle has been good as a player for us, but off field & the public image damage, not so much. Maybe we should have nothing to do with players connected to that ethical powerhouse Essendon. Many have mentioned that Robbo has been very even handed, of course he has, Essendon fan who does not want the "Drug Cheat" sledge to continue.

I already refuse to read anything by Purple, King etc. They just get more heavy handed next time if you click on their crap. They love a Collingwood scandal too, the more response they get the more they exploit it. I love the way guys like Kevin Bartlett are acting like it was national tragedy. He's just about ready to demand a royal commission. It's just slightly demented.

IMHO considering most of the Saints boys just pointed out that they'd or their teammate had slept with Murphy's missus, I don't see how that's inappropriate if indeed it's true (which it is). People just stating facts
Rors....I was under the impression that it was Jake and one other doing the sledging....but it was several was it?

I have heard non stop the media saying "it was the St.Kilda players".

This was on field not off field, and dont pretend Carlisle or anybody at the Saints are the first to use this type of sledge.

There are many stories on these thread of what players have said on the footy field

Players from Sydney, Hawthorn, Bulldogs. There would be 14 other teams that have engaged in exactly the same thing.

A Selwood was hauled up in front of the tribunal for sledging Headland tattoo FFS.

Why do you think Carlton wanted to move on quickly and no enquiry? Because it would come out what they were saying last Saturday, and suddenly they aren't the victim and media lovechild anymore.

This all happened because a mentally weak coward didn't have the balls to confront a player until he was on the ground in a prone position.

They saw how Murphy had shown his true character and needed to bury the truth.

However the truth was there for all to see. Murphy is a gutless squib that will be haunted by his cowardice for the rest of his mediocre career.

I'm sorry but i just dont agree with this. Yes image is important when it comes to the game, but you tell me over the last 15-20 years one club that has won a gf that was squeaky clean when it comes to players??

Give me a premiership everyday of the week and im sure the club can live with a player who sledges someones wife or does a bit of recreational drug use and gets caught.

comments made were vulgar, not sexist.

They had Michelangelo Rucci on with Bartlett today, and Bartlett was crapping on about it being the same as racial vilification. Rucci who isn't a smart bloke was trying to tell him Murphy would rather it all die down but Bartlett was demanding an enquiry over the top of Murphy's wishes to get to the bottom of this lewdness. He wants what was said made public so we can see it in all it's crudeness...... It's like some kind of insanity. Obviously in the 1900s when he played they used to shake hands and play in a gentlemanly spirit.

More to the point, how many were there at the same time? ;)

The irony is that my wife was going to a hairdresser for a while about 10 years ago and one day she told her she was a footy groupie and had slept with a good potion of the Carlton team of the time and liked to do the group thing. She couldn't go back to get her hair cut again after knowing that much detail about her personal life.
