Simple Simon says 'Nah, lets not tag'. Butters goes on to have a historic night, kick 2 second half goals and they get up by a goal. Harmes should be a permanent tagger but that's just how I believe the game should be played.

he's not because he's not in our best 22 anymore

when he is used as a sub, and comes on, he plays as an impact mid who can hit the scoreboard

gimme petracca / oliver / viney as the starting mids over a combo of two of those plus harmes as a tagger

Yes, not tagging Butters was definitely the reason we lost. He had 18 disposals and 2 goals in the 2nd half after having 23 disposals at half time. 100% the reason we lost. That's on Goodwin.

I'm not saying Harmes is playing well. No doubt his form has dropped. I just think putting him in a tagging role is the exact thing that can reinvigorate him. I don't agree with Goodwin's stance on taggers in general. But that's just me.

I think he’d get more senior opportunities elsewhere. I assume that’s what he’d be looking for.

But if he’s happy to come across as and mostly play reserves footy I’d be ok with it.

Harmes is meant to be on $500k per year with his last contracted year being 2024. I wouldn’t be surprised if Melbourne are willing to eat some of that if it means getting a pick of some value around the 30 mark. Especially if Melbourne lose Grundy and get 650k off the books and replace that 650k with a 3-400k player like Chol.
