Now don't get me wrong, Hirdy is a champion of the game and will be rightly remebered as such. But, I can't recall any player's retirement being such a long drawn out overblown process.

I ventured down to watch the GF parade today, and who should be in one of the cars but James ****ing Hird !!!. Sorry, isn't it meant to be for the clubs participating in the GF ??.

A send-off at Subi, then at the G, then at the GF tomorrow plus 20,000 media suck pieces is obviously not enough for James, he also has to rain on the Cats-Power parade.

At least guys like Archer, Kouta and Roo had the decency to not use the GF parade as another medie whore opportunity.

Just retire Hird and get the bloody thing over with !!!!!

Is Sir James Hird going into the media next year? If so, I guess we will be seeing even more of James, so I don't know why there are all these protracted farewells....

you do realise the two farewell matches were mostly for kevin sheedy
the biggest name afl has seen and probably will ever see...

it wasnt all for hirdy... mostly for sheeds...

hirds retirement hasnt been that overblown
he had two matches, sharing them with as i said the biggest name in footy
most of the people were there to send of sheedy rather then hird, i was mainly there fore sheedy myself..

what else has he been in really

the grand final footy show??? with many other players
atribute to a set of four champions on the brownlow...

that grand final parade is pretty much the only thing he hasnt had to share with other retireees.. get over it, if anything a champion like him deserves more

More like one of the most overblown careers ever.

Only a few more months to go, then we won't have to hear any more stories about "humble" Jimmy telling the world how great he was.

Perhaps Pies supporters are still a bit jealous that the football public tends to rate Hirdy above FIGJAM?

How many flags has Bucks got again?

I'm jealous that the football public rates Hird above a lot of players.

Your premiershipless (former) captain being one of them.

Those in glass houses, and all .

Of course you are jealous, James Hird is a Champion and will end up in the Hall of Fame.

glad to see the arse end of him - talk about over-hyped. this is a bloke who won 1 brownlow ffs - there are plenty of others. treated liked bloody royalty and loves to cash in. remember the "testimonial" night when one of football's richest players fleeced a little more outa the pockets of the bewildered

You don't know a thing... I remember a thread a year or so ago about one posters brother who was suffering with cancer (or some other unfortunately serious disease) and how James Hird came up completelly unannounced and sat and watched the game with him... He does so much for so many people that doesn't make the news. He is a champion on and off the field.

Hirdy probably didn't organize any of this. He just said yes to it...

Great. Lovely thing to do.

You make it sound like he's the only footballer in Australia that does it!

And you make it sound like he is some kind of evil bloke that manipulates the media..

Oh wait its Hirdys fault that everyone loves him.. What a prick of a bloke.

Seriously your a disgrace! People love him cause he is a top guy and has given so many people great memories on and off the field. He is a top guy and if anything deserves more admiration than what he gets..

Why do people always respond with a comment about the team supported instead of addressing the issue raised?

By the way the thread was started by a St.Kilda supporter

Did anybody say he aint a champ? Just said it is being dragged out and overexposed.
Vossy just had a press conference and that was pretty much it.

James Hird is one of the best players I've seen, but the hysteria surrounding his retirement is obscene.
Oh look a Brisbane supporter agrees, guess peppy and buddy will struggle to make comebacks now!

Apart from the latter part of this season when has Hird been in the public eye anymore than say Buckley.

Yeah, probably fair enough, but he feeds it and it makes me sick to be honest. He's well below the top tier of footballers I've seen - Carey/Voss/Dunstall/Ablett etc (not including Buckley or Daicos due to obvious bias) - yet he's revered as one of the top few to play the game.

The thing that shits me is when you hear about how "humble" he is, yet he (or, to be fair, Essendon) always seem to let the media know when he does so much as blow his nose! And don't get me started on that "Braveheart" picture in (I think) the Herald-Sun a few years ago... yuck.

But you're right, it's more the media beatup of him I dislike as opposed to Hird himself...

A) I was quoting and responding to a collingwood fan's post, but don't let the facts get in the way.

B) I have no issue with a Brisbane supporter agrees with me. It is when a pies supporter agrees that I will start to contemplate putting the keyboard away.

NOTE: contemplate, so don't try to be smart pies fans. Although, undoubtedly you would struggle to do so anyway.
