Have to agree with this. Hird was as good as the best in his time, and rightly got paid well for it.

We don't need Buddy, and Geelong didn't need Ablett. You had the two best players in the comp leaving their respective clubs, but the elite core remained (and they could all have demanded massive pay rises to leave). Moreover, neither team pays over-the-odds to poach blow-ins (like Goddard who did his best work at St Kilda, and Mark Williams and his $170,000 a goal ).

There's a reason the team regarded as one of the best ever only managed a solitary flag.

Caracella was traded by Brisbane after two years for the same reason - suppose Jono Brown and Voss were selfish campaigners too (but definitely not Blake$).
