We were the most dominant side in history at the time. James was a premiership captain, norm smith & charlie winner. Successful side came into salary cap issues - wow who would have thought?

shit troll is shit
Our stars all took pay cuts to stay together... Unlike Hird they weren't a selfish **** of a human being
And it's history that Essendon's brilliant side of circa 2000 won one flag while Geelong is currently three not out.
We don't need Buddy, and Geelong didn't need Ablett. You had the two best players in the comp leaving their respective clubs, but the elite core remained (and they could all have demanded massive pay rises to leave). Moreover, neither team pays over-the-odds to poach blow-ins (like Goddard who did his best work at St Kilda, and Mark Williams and his $170,000 a goal ).

There's a reason the team regarded as one of the best ever only managed a solitary flag.
Add Carlton with Judd and now Daisy. It's very difficult to buy success in this AFL era.

And I like your last paragraph: apparently that reason starts with "H" and sounds like "Turd". Well according to Lloyd anyway.

Hird, the gift that keeps on giving taking.

Knights is in the VFL. He's already been arsed from the AFL as an unmitigated spud of a coach at that level.
Have a look at the Geelong coaching box during game day. You'll find Knights in there where is Hird?

Oh goody, another Hird thread

Say what you like, but Knights was a failure as a coach - there is no denying that.

Heff, Blumfield and Caracella were valuable contributors in that premiership team - it was clearly unfortunate the club could not keep the entire list together.

The 'player retention' allowance the Lions enjoyed at the time would've been handy, wouldn't it?
And the IV drips

Has the velvet one lost his love for the golden one? Hes spent the last 4 yrs pumping him up. Are things about to get messy

Is this what it sounds like, when doves cry?

Paris, I think.

Does this somehow change Knights' atrocities as a senior AFL coach? He was ******* hopeless, whether he's in someone else's box or not.

If he is hopeless as a AFL coach why is he still involved at AFL level?

He was a hopeless senior coach. How many times do I need to say it?

Is he in a senior AFL coaching role? No. Why? He's hopeless!
And for all that he has achieved more in his coaching career than Hird.
And yet Hird is still getting $1m per year from EFC, no wonder the club has been fined for poor governance

Yeah nah - Knights built nothing. Jimmah spent two years cleaning his shit out and still has a better win:loss record.

Better credentials, you reckon?
serious face Look I think Hird is coaching for the stands, really looking for shortcuts. They haven't really restructured the list from Knight's plodders, two senior top ups may have worked for Sheedy but Hird isn't Sheedy, and Monfries and Crameri have proved they weren't worthless: thats break even at best given they are good short term options instead of average medium term. Are they meant to be part of a flag challenge? Thats just unrealistic Voss nonsense.

Frankly the game plan was (and remains) Thompson running a fairly bruise free game plan that reminds me of Ratten's Carlton more than Geelong. Maybe the Merrets will prove me wrong and they have the potential too, but there isn't too much looking new about Essendon under Hird aside from a deeply shocking controversy..

/serious face Its true Knights was less well credential led on the tan and perma-erection front.
