The news of sicily training the house down and finally the penny has dropped that he is an elite Athlete gets me bloody excited.

Get the feeling Sicily and DGB will be the most annoying pair in the AFL going to be great

So true, and given DGB's height the term annoying might possibly be replaced by formidable after another couple of preseasons or so.

He needs that size if he's going to mess with the likes of Finlayson etc. on a regular basis. He should get it too, can't wait for the square up there whenever it comes along.

JAMES Sicily rated Denver Grainger-Barras well before any of his Hawthorn teammates had laid eyes on the West Australian.

He trawled through vision, wrote reports and sat inside the war room at Waverley Park, peppering Hawks list boss Mark McKenzie with text messages until the club selected the key defender at pick No.6 in the 2020 NAB AFL Draft.

The 27-year-old did the same thing last year. This time with Sam Butler, even sitting in on his pre-draft zoom interview to probe the Victorian.

That’s one of the more in-depth reads on one of our players that I’ve ever seen.

Interesting that Sic thinks he’s going to head into list management and possibly coaching.

Now that he's shown his hand on his interest in list management and that he was heavily involved in DGB and Butler selections I hope that means he's completely invested in sticking around to help ensure they develop into great players so that his future post-footy career resume looks good.

Sicily going nowhere. He will be paid very well by Hawthorn and will get a contract somewhere around 650-750 a year with us.

If another club wants to offer him 900 a year x 4 years or something stupid like that then so be it . (I cannot see another club offering him a contract like that to be honest)

If that's the case then it's band 1 compo. Either way, can't lose.

Yep. No rush to sign him.

See how he comes back from the knee.

If he's still a star, great. We can offer terms. If better offers come around, then the FA compo will be good.

If he struggles, we can offer appropriate terms.

I'm calling it right now, James Sicily is captain in 2023

I know he's 2 years older from when he last played but what happened to his face? He looks like a completely different person. I saw him playing on the weekend and didn't know who he was.

He was sluggish today. Not sure if the extra bulk is going to help him.
He was keeping lock-step with JHF and didn't fall behind. He's always looked sluggish but he's still quick.

He's older but that haircut didn't help. It made him look like Anthony Michael Hall when he appeared in Community.

Is our best player by a fair margin. Absolute gun.
People forgot - before he did his knee “better than McGovern at intercept” was a legitimate debate, and he’s a weapon on rebound too.
I've said this a ridiculous amount of times, but I genuinely feel he's bad luck and bias away from being a 3x AA. Two late season injuries and 1 season where he absolutely belonged there but all the media could focus on was that Carlton game he got scragged by a bloke who was delisted a few years back and gave away a few frees.

Best player by miles. About to get the recognition he deserves with multiple AA selections to come. Unlucky injuries have robbed him so far.

Captain next year and a five year deal please.
