Toast Jamie Elliott - wow wee

Elliot was brilliant on Saturday, held us together by taking clutch marks at important times. He is exactly the sort of player we need - a quick lead up forward. Makes our forward line function much better as it gives our midfielders an extra option going forward. His forward pressure is great too, throw Sinclair back in there and we have some serious pace & defensive pressure.

On the Tippett thing, everyone passed on him as least Hine had him well on his radar and given the player he has become he is obviously going to be a regret - so close yet so far type of thing.

I really don't rate Tippett that highly. It's a shame not to have picked him up because then we could have traded him for a decent pick, perhaps. ;)

Genuinely amazing quarter of footy, probably the best individual quarter of footy I've seen a first year player deliver. When the pressure was on he would just not drop the ball. Stood up tall when the chips were down, every one of his marks were solid as a rock. The funny thing is, I never doubted him when I saw him lead up for any of them-I have the confidence in his overhead marking similar to that of Medhurtsts.

What makes it sweeter is that he is in my DT, knocked up 50 points in the last term and probably secured his spot for a while to come.

I was going to ask the amount of dt points he got for the qtr. amazing, think he took 6-7 marks in the qtr,3-4 of them being contested.

Who is he competing with for a rising star nom?

No idea but he'd have to be stiff not to get it, unless there was a standout performance I don't know about.
Possibly McDonald from Melbourne who has been pretty consistent for them as a kpd. But Elliot genuinely stood up and went a long way to winning us the game in that qtr

He's what 4 or 5 games into his career and the signs are all promising at this stage. Its a long hard slog the first season so not expecting too much, next year should see him really start to show his full potential. What I did take from that last quarter was this kid has big game, clutch play performer written all over him.

This kid is something else, stood up when needed and didn't panic. My wife commented that he looked too young to be even playing AFL so when he fills out and hardens up with age it will be nie on impossible to break into your best 22 with all the depth you have at the moment.

Ah Dermie, gets on the radio and when Elliot is talked about goes with "he took some really nice marks in the last quarter, but you know what, he doesn't move the ball on fast enough". Here we go, Dermie doing his life time predictions. Yuo wait, when ever Dermie mentions elliot for the rest of his career, no matter if Elliot is the fastest transferrer of the ball to ever play he won't let this go. He'll just blurt it out, make a really long winded description of it and make it sound like he has the perfect analysis.
D**head, go watch that game again fool.

Does anyone take Dermie Seriously anymore?

Hmmm, I have to agree with Dermie a bit on that, Elliott is not the fastest mover of the ball but he's no different to Young or Ugle or Wood or Dawes. Elliott will improve with confidence.

And in the last few minutes he probably should have slowed it up - he could have wound down the clock more than he did (ie: like his team-mates were doing)

But they're not criticisms, just opportunities for improvement.

Don't get me started on how much I hate Brereton as a commentator! Maybe he is right, but he was our best player with 7 possessions, 3 contested marks and a ripper tackle in the last quarter and it is only his fourth game. Give him a break!

Fourth-gamer takes longer than average to move the ball on... what next? Debutant KPP lacks size? Rookie ruckman gets manhandled by opponent? Early draftee fades at end of long season? Gun junior midfielder struggles to deal with a tag?

Please favour us with more of your unique insights, Derm!

But you know what? I know more than you and have an insight into the game that nobody else does because I am a frickin superstar and am in love with the sound of my own voice. I am also highly skilled in telling you what is happening with the play while I am talking over the play-by-play commentator and refuse to stf up so he can do it.

Dermie may have a few good insights into the game, but you know what? He is incredibly irritating and if anybody aired as many observations or opinions about football as Dermie did, they would probably do the same. Dermie has no problems talking when he is being critical and commentating on the game, but you know what? He is garbage at hosting a show and the high school level of flow on league teams proves this. Imagine if Dermie actually watched the show and was able to be critical of himself, how long would it take him to realise the guy hosting the show is a complete an utter failure in the role?

Though it's Typical Dermie

He makes up for the loss of cafs marking the way he played.

Real early in his career to play matchwinning footy like he did. How the heck did we get him? A steal.

Im hangin to see him play again.

It's hard to imagine that Dermie used to play for Collingwood really.

(The man in the head is now going like this: Huh? Oh yeah, he did. But c'mon, only for one season at the end of his career. Doesn't really count. Deep down he's still an arrogant Hawthorn prick.)

He was a Collingwood Supporter Growing Up

But he did move the ball on quickly when he could. I mean, the observation was just wrong.
But knowing Dermie he will just plow this through the rest of Elliot's career so he sleeps at night thinking he is right as always. Gees he's irritating sometimes.
