This kid has just about become my favourite player. So much adversity in his life and he has pulled through against the odds. I love the kid and hope he plays every game left this year. Good article.

If you read that and don't start to tear up just a little you ain't human.

Great article written by the best AFL journo going around.:)
Yep, I teared up. I hope this kid plays for a long time with us, especially after all the adversity he has faced. This is an underdog story in the making.

Go Jamie, you good thing!:):thumbsu:

Has the talent of Medhurst with his marking ability for a smaller player but also has the willingness to play within the team concepts, work defensively and work hard on his game. Elliott has always been a very developed and highly productive player and it is wonderful to see him make such a successful transition to AFL football. 15 tackles. That's a man's game right there.

Have to agree with Mattys. He's looking like the "get" of the Marty Clarke deal with Clarke's ever declining form. I had Jamie pegged as a depth guy who could come into the team, play a role and play it well. But he has far exceeded my expectation and is looking like a clear best 22 player right now and looks like he could become something special, if he isn't that already.

Yep, brought a lump to my throat. My father died when I was not much older than that, so I could really relate to what Elliott said in the article.

I disagree about your second part though, Martin Flanagan's my favourite.

Agree, great article - she doesn't write bad ones very often.

I can tell you first hand Jamie is a great kid, worked unbelievably hard last year after he broke his collarbone to make sure he was super fit for draft camp and deserves every success that comes his way. He could have got down on himself and sulked but that's not his way.

Great talent plus very high work ethic equates to what you see on the field with Jamie.

15 tackles is unbelievable.

This will hold him in good stead because it shows he can contribute in other areas if he is not hitting the scoreboard or finding the footy.

It's great to have another version of Medders running around again.

I heard today that of his 15 tackles, 10 were inside forward 50. The competition leader for tackles inside 50 at this point had 20 for the year. Elliott had 10 in 1 game! Great effort and he's bringing back the forward pressure that we need.

I just read that story and shed a tear.

What a great article and makes me appreciate herb even more with what he has gone through.

Hey, TBone I got nothing against a little herbage myself man, but not sure this is the appropriate forum to come out of the "hydroponic cupboard.";)

Is that a Record or Something?

He is fast becoming my favourite player. 15 tackles in a game is ridiculous. Grew up quickly, has a good head on his shoulders, and deserves all the success he seems destined for. Injury is the only thing that will keep him out of the team. I'll have your number on my back next season Jamie.

His current number, 35, will go to our next first round draft pick at the end of this year, which we started doing with Alex Fasolo a couple of years ago as a tribute to Presti, I believe. The club plans to keep doing this every year, so Jamie's number will be different next year. Just a heads up.;)

Those supporters not wishing to be locked into one player should consider buying a number 35 jumper, so that each year they have the number of our latest number 1 draft pick rather than some stale old star.

To be honest the best part of his game was how he took advice on board from the previous week. Maxy made a point to him that the team thing to do after any mark no matter how good was to get back as soon as possible so that you are ready to play on.
You watch him this week each time he takes a mark he is straight back ready to go. 15 tackles is great. But a fast learning curve hopefully points to a player who listens and will develop quickly. Who knows how good he will be but we can be confident he will get the best from his ability and the best development team in the AFL

Yep, I know that. That's why I'll wait til next year to see what number he ends up with. Maybe Krakouer's discarded #3????
