The flag is not going to influence the federal election one iota when you have so many real issues like cost of living. Sneebles has shown his true colours!99.9999% of people could not care less.

Are you a proud Australian?

Then why would the opposition leader deliberately create an issue out of flags at press conferences? The flag is not going to influence the federal election one iota when you have so many real issues like cost of living. Sneebles has shown his true colours!

Because he was asked a question about it.Then why would the opposition leader deliberately create an issue out of flags at press conferences?
No doubt he will be asked about it so therefore he will have to give a response. What's the bet potato-head ( or one of his disciples ) gives the protest a mention in the next 48 hrs ? ( while standing in front of " the flag " )
If a flag is a big deal (and it sure seems to be for most nations around the world; the most immediate official visual symbol of each nation) then yes, giving a quarter of its surface area over to a foreign country is also a big deal.Big ****ing deal. The Union Jack represents a quarter of the flag. Langer should have been more careful in how he draped it around him. Joke!!!!
Yes it is a crap flag but it is still our official flag. Until that officially changes we have to live with it
There are so many things that are crappy. The national anthem. Excise on beer. Luxury tax on imported cars (no longer needed because Australia no longer makes cars). The Adelaide FC song. Preferential voting. Trade Union corruption. Planning laws. Bail laws...
And you focus on the flag?
Patriotism is the conviction that you country is superior to other countries because you were born in it.Hard to be proud about something that is an accident of birth. To quote the late great George Carlin “you might as well be proud of being 5ft 10”.
Be proud to be a productive member of your local community, volunteer to help those in need and act as a role model for future generations. And not someone who thinks “patriotism” is limited to waving a silly flag.
But I must ask are those who observe the national day on a date when British people did something and wave a flag with a British symbol on it “proud Australians” as to me it seems their priority is another country?
That figure sounds very scientific.99.9999% of people could not care less.
Glad you clarified your position. If a flag is a big deal (and it sure seems to be for most nations around the world; the most immediate official visual symbol of each nation) then yes, giving a quarter of its surface area over to a foreign country is also a big deal.
Can you not see how ridiculous is is to say that a cricketer in our national team should be more careful how he drapes the Australian flag, because it might end up looking like a British flag? Not sure Langer's carelessness is the issue in this example.
I know I have to live with it until it changes. I'm just saying its a crap flag and we need to change it. Not sure of your point here.
The national anthem is also crappy, agreed. That doesn't invalidate my criticism of the crappy flag.
I don't focus on the flag. It merely came up in the discussion.
Bottom line, I think January 26th is a crap date for our national day but I don't march in protest and I take the holiday, but take no part in any relevant activities.
I think our flag sucks but it's not high on my concerns.
Ditto our dud national anthem.
He was asked a question about flags before Xmas. He said that if he was PM, he would only have one flag behind him. I guess he is following through on that commitment now.No, he made a deliberate decision not to use them. That's the beginning of it.
If albo wears a KKK suit to a press conference, there's a chance he might get asked then about his choices.
Even this guy never tried making it an issue in that way AFAIK

And Mark Twain said, "Patriotism is supporting your country all the time and your government when it deserves it."Patriotism is the conviction that you country is superior to other countries because you were born in it.
It’s odd to be ‘proud’ of your country, as if you were somehow responsible for it. I’m pleased to live in a relatively safe and secure country, I feel fortunate to have the life I have, but I also recognise that it’s not the same for everyone and we should always strive to be better. Anything else seems silly.
Mate I’m calling out the lefties. Yes the board is an echo chamber. look at any of the political threads. they’re losing their minds at a Dutton leading the polls and Trump.
99.9999% of people could not care less.
Absolutely with you there mate.Glad you clarified your position.
For me the Canadian flag epitomises what a national flag should be. Simple and distinctive. Instantly recognisable, and in no way divisive. If Australian can come up with something like that it will be a winner
He was asked, because he was not using the flags. The issue began with his actions, not a question. He was asked a question about flags before Xmas. He said that if he was PM, he would only have one flag behind him. I guess he is following through on that commitment now.
Not sure what the big deal is to be honest.
Hardly anyone has 'lived experience' given most of the horrors that happened occurred more than a century ago give or take some exceptions. He was asked, because he was not using the flags. The issue began with his actions, not a question.
If you had lived experience of the horrors that First Peoples were subjected to, you'd understand the importance. Educate yourself and do some cultural capability training.
No, there are plenty of people alive who went through huge trauma, like removal from family, forced marriages and children being taken. Your ignorance is breathtaking. Educate yourself, speak with these people who have lived it and are still alive today. It's not some dark remnant from 200 years ago.Hardly anyone has 'lived experience' given most of the horrors that happened occurred more than a century ago give or take some exceptions.
I'll pass on the brain-washing training thanks.
These things all happened over a century ago with some exceptions up until the 1970s which basically is half a century ago now.No, there are plenty of people alive who went through huge trauma, like removal from family, forced marriages and children being taken. Say what you want about Switzerland, their flag is a big plus.
Exactly right, these people are still alive today. These things all happened over a century ago with some exceptions up until the 1970s which basically is half a century ago now.
**** right off. I had a foster brother, born in the 70s. His elder brother was stolen from his mother a few years earlier, she ‘gave him up’ because she thought they were coming for him anyway. So technically not part of the stolen generations but stolen nonetheless. He later returned to his community but was always stuck between two cultures, never quite fitting in. Took his own life at a sadly young age. Don’t try to pretend the horrors are ancient history and not part of people’s lives right now.Hardly anyone has 'lived experience' given most of the horrors that happened occurred more than a century ago give or take some exceptions.
