Have no problem doubting their sincerity… for most it’s their only chance to mingle with the indigenous there as they normally don’t see them in their multi story apartment blocks when they come down for a trendy over priced coffee. ….

There’s two posters on this thread who actually attended rallies today.

Why don’t you ask them sincerely about their experiences and intentions rather than push your opinion on what you think happened

I agree. I'm just saying the rallies today aren't about doing that. They're about giving First Nations people and the Blak sovereignty movement in particular a place to speak and be listened to without being interrupted or disapproved of. I'm not surprised if that results in the outpouring of a lot of anguish people might feel forced to keep inside the rest of the year.

If the date was changed it wouldn't make any difference to the past, or to the future outcomes of people identifying as Aboriginal. A bit like when Kevin Rudd said sorry.

It might even lose the focus for the protests against 'invasion day'.

Because of solidarity amongst different groups of oppressed peoples. At the rally I went to, a Yugarapul man spoke about how his people and Palestinians are both victims of genocide, but the genocide of his people was in the past and the Palestinian one is happening now. He then led the crowd in a chant of Free Palestine. Later a representative of the local Palestinian community spoke about the great respect and solidarity he and his community had for the local First Nations people and his desire to learn what remains of their language.
lol. Attention seekers

😂 not even Japan in WW2 planned to invade Australia (confirmed by the Japanese PM after the war).

The diggers invading Turkey in 1915 were certainly not fighting for Australian freedom, Nor against the Boers, or in Korea, Vietnam, Iraq and the disgrace that was Afghanistan. Don’t give me the rubbish that the Anzacs were fighting for freedom. They never were and they never have.

The deputy leader of the party who wants to be the new government today said the country was like an uninhabited planet when the first fleet rocked up.

They were fighting for the empire and contemporary reports say as much

You seem to live in some Nirvana that Australia would never have been discovered and/or inhabited.

Holy shit mate listen to your words.

“Never been DISCOVERED or INHABITED”

There were almost a million human beings living on this country in 1788 speaking over 200 languages and were already trading with Makassans in Indonesia. They had systems of beliefs, laws, justice, family and governance.

That’s EXACTLY the point people are trying to make. It’s not even a question of whether the British or someone else would have been better. It’s not admitting that there were human beings here before 1788 like we were ****ing Mars

Yes but it gives an opportunity with good faith of going forward

It's symbolic yes but it would still have significant meaning I'd suspect

Systems can’t have been that great given they were taken over by a fleet of ships containing just under 1500 people - many of whom arrived against their will.

Let’s stop romantasicing it please.

It’s funny how when I debunk one of your nonsense arguments you must move into another

So what you said before was Australia was never “discovered or inhabited” - then when I told you it was inhabitants by a million people you simply moved onto “well they were so weak as a society they deserved what they got”.

You aren’t consistent and you’re just being outright racist now.

You’ve obviously got no idea. Might be ok to be an indigenous homosexual in Fitzroy or Collingwood but try that in the remote areas and they would barely last 5 minutes. And that is fact.

Holy **** mate your posts are just ignorant and disgusting.

There is a vibrant LGBT community in Alice Springs with many indigenous members. The plot of one of Australia’s best ever movies involves LGBT people driving to Alice Springs.
