yes and no danog, his decision making and awareness was well off what i would have expected from a top 10 draftee, happens though, he's not the first and wont be the last to misfire...good luck to him, hope he gets rookied and with his solid vfl form I reckon he might
 
Interesting to look back on my comments made 4 years ago.

I think what this shows is that Richmond should stay away from speculative stocks and stick to the blue chippers, at least until they have more faith in their development system.

JON was raw coming out but his development has been minimal since entering the AFL system.

It's pretty sad to see a player of such percieved talent and overall ability to just fall by the way side. He's had jack all time in the Richmond side even when they have been struggling so it's clear he hasn't adapted fast enough and the likes of Wallace wanting a quickish fix just throw him back to the reserves. It was a bit like Gibbs who wasn't playing good enough to stay in the side but we sacrificed his position for the sake of his development.

I can see a WA side taking him as a rookie (if he's available?) or even a side like a Brisbane where he is a little bit isolated from controversy and media attention. Not that he gained too much here but just any kind of negativity can really shoot a player and his confidence...
 
Richmond gave him 3 years to show something ... anything ... he gave us nothing.

Ridiculous comparison with Rodan ... Rodan tried hard with Richmond but was unlucky with injuries. He had talent and still does ...

JON is another Richard Lounder except we wasted 3 seasons with him on the list instead of only 1.

I don't think he will be picked up by anyone, not even as a rookie ...
 
How do the rules regarding selecting rookies go? Can he be selected as a rookie or is he too old? If he can i wouldnt mind selecting him with a rookie spot for a year as we should have a few rookie selctions and he cant be any worse than liam bedford!
 
JON had the indigenous flair coached out of him at tigers. Has been serious development problems at tigerland for last 10 years. Players including (JON) Deledio, Tambling, Hughes would be absolutely flying at any other club. Meaning they would be consistently playing good footy. Surely another club gotta give JON a decent crack at it.

others i wouldve seen go before him. wouldnt be surprised to see him do well somewhere else. looked to be settling in to half forward a bit but some idiots at the club think that if a player doesnt dominate in the first 10 games when theyre still 21 that they must be no good. warnie started with 1/300 or something in his first couple games.
 
Each club has a limited number on their lists and a limited number of rookies ...

About 120 blokes will get drafted and maybe another 120 get rookied in the coming drafts.

The Eagles and Freo are from home, they will maybe take on 10 - 15 new draftie/rookies each onto their lists.

How likely is it that any club would use up one of these handful of drafts and rookie drafts on someone who cannot break into the Richmond side?

There will be some dead wood going between clubs at the end of this year, JON won't be amongst them.
