What he needs to do now is get with a running coach [speed] because if he can find a metre or two in acceleration especially he has most of the other boxes ticked, I think he could also add a little aggression and hardness to his game to complement his good skills.

Brisbane's transition was terrible Saturday. They pushed up but made no effort to run back to defence allowing a few of our blokes to find space deep in our forward line way too easily. JJ exposed them badly for this and Lyons clearly twigged to it as well.

He's a smart footballer.

Just had a little thought to compare lyons (2016) to douglas in his best season 2013
goals behinds kicks handballs disposals marks tackles
0.9 0.8 14.8 8.0 22.8 5.3 3.9
1.0 0.1 11.3 9.3 20.5 3.1 4.1

Not a huge difference, i think this bloke could be a great goal kicking midfield for the next few years, if he can keep this form up

edit: doestn look great when posted, however it is the average for the two players with douglas as the top numbers

Abundantly clear that lyons has the tools to be better than Douglas in his career. Without looking at stats, I would say Dougie has one year where he has outperformed Lyons' 2016. Disclaimer: I am a pretty big Lyons fan and it is great to finally be vindicated in 2016.

i was never a fan, however thought he may have been good enough to make it. looks like he is

I hear its really tough to improve speed, from what I can tell you're either born with it or not. Endurance is easy to improve hence why older players can still do well in the time trials at the end of their careers. But that initial speed 3-10 metres tough to improve.
Apparently Pendles went crazy trying to gain speed to no avail.

Jarryd Lyons was told he'd have to improve his running if he was to cement his place in Adelaide's line-up after re-signing with the Crows for two years last season.

So he enlisted the help of Melbourne-based sports scientist and strength coach Christian Woodford last pre-season, who specialises in athletic development.

And your point is? People are willing to take jobs on things they can't deliver?
If he wants to improve his 5km no probs, easy done.
If he wants to improve his 3km no probs, easy done.
If he wants to improve his 1km no probs, easy done.
If he wants to improve his 1-10m speed... good luck but I'm not holding my breath on him running down Dangerfield anytime soon.

Very happy to be proven wrong though.

Has never looked slow when the footy's nearby. Seems to have plenty of time when he gets it. Really not sure how this 'issue' surrounding his pace grew legs. You have to wonder sometimes.

I don't wonder.

It was made up bullshit to justify his non selection - because there was no valid reason.

He's proven it this year - a qualify individual and a very good footballer.

Thank Christ he kept the faith, when he would've been completely justified in leaving.

Yeah, I'm glad he's not lining up against us as he well could be.

Hats off to Jarryd, averaging 21 possessions and is one of the most attacking midfielders this year. He has a score involvement average up there with Danger and is better than Bont.

For a guy not in the best 22 at the start of the year to now up amongst elite for midfield scoring, has there been a better in season turn around at the club?

Not sure much has changed with Jarryd. The turnaround has been at the selection table. And even then they dropped him despite good form.

I dunno, my mate Dave worked really hard to improve his speed.

Now everyone wants to buy off him
