GWS have had high draft picks for a long time. They rarely have to go to rookie draft when Geelong, Richmond give them high draft picks for their players.
Leon Cameron liked 3 KPFs. Dimma 2 in 2017,( I think Griffiths was injured) and 3 pressure smalls. Plus pressure style, knock the Ball on, keep it moving. No other team was playing our style.

2019 2 KPF. By the end of 2022 MRJ as the sole pressure player. George and Aarts out of the line up.

Compared to gold coast, Giants have been a raging success.. one GF appearance not bad compared to Suns zero finals.
Be interested to see Giants this year with a new coach.
I loved Leon Cameron as a player. Shame for NSW he didn't have more success.
RFC had been thereabouts. It took the failure of 2016 to get us the flag in 2017.
Benny's 10 year plan was looking like a joke. Only sacking of assistants. And a mantra of have some fun. And bring strengths to the team which supported the better players.
I suspect kingers will surprise a few has similar qualities to dimma , great cv , he’s the coach ess should have had , great selection by gws

After watching George's retirement speech in front of the player group, coaches, family and friends it's pretty clear to me that negative social media personal criticisms of him, we know the type of thing he implied briefly because we see it here on this forum ourselves, played a major part in George falling out of love with the game at 26.

Towards the end of the video he thanks Dave Astbury and Ivan Soldo for helping him get though some pretty dark days. Outside online criticism of him was clearly pretty hateful in the last year or two. He looked a relieved man at the end. Dimma managed to get him smiling which was awesome.

It looks like he has a loving wife and family behind him as well so I think the future for Jason Castagna is one filled with fun, humour and light. Let's hope far lesser footballers finally shut their pie holes and give him some well deserved peace.

Go well George and thanks for the three Cups !!!

Well said mate. :thumbsu:

What I'm unclear on is that I thought the players pretty much had a social media blackout during season, precisely so that kind of thing couldn't happen to them?

Did something maybe change in that policy, or perhaps in some cases the sheer quantity makes it impossible to avoid? I'd hope it wasn't anything to do with supporters at games having a crack at him.

I'm sure if he went around for a lap rd.1 the Tiger faithful will show him just how loved and appreciated he has been, he may well get the biggest cheer of all.

They read it 100%. Including Bigfooty. Human instinct. Then it’s up to the individual as to what they absorb. It would be pretty shit jumping on social seeing your own fans tearing you apart. Oppo fans you’d understand because you cop it cross the fence.

Even if they don’t read it personally I’m sure some friends, family or even acquaintances would read it especially when you think about the fact it’s across basically all social media platforms

That kind of stuff would trickle through even if it’s a mate saying he read something and thought it was a load of shit

People understand a little bit of gameday banter or frustration but it’s to the point where players delete social media like Jake Aartts did last year posters need to realise they are part of the problem and actually damaging the mental health or even the performance of the players they are targeting

Well said my friend , I think also being final year of contract , Blair may well have told him he’d be battling to be re contracted , everything aligned , good luck to him , I admire what he achieved

Absolutely it does , I’m friends with a family of a kid that was a high draft pic that flopped , his old man mentioned the crap he heard and read online , bloody great people too , same with aartsy, he was a Richmond die hard told my mate he was living the dream and peeps felt the need to shame him , sickening really

Supporters were pretty awful to him, its a shame to see him gone just as he is getting to an age where he should be peaking. In saying that, pretty poor form to announce it once the list were locked in, we would have been able to take on Narkle who had been working his arse off to keep his AFL career going

Of the 2017 Premiership side, only 11 players remain & I reckon that number could halve again at the end of this season

I think the injury late in the preseason was the reason to pull the pin on the year. Good luck to him that he gets his contact paid out in full.
Clarke and sonzie and others are clearly in selection consideration now..
181 cm Narkle was at the club all preseason and didn't get selected.
Looks like a few draftees are playing well.
Cotch, Jr, Graham probably out. Grimes is an injury away from retirement too. Kmac might be superceded.

Could we potentially take Narkle in the sup period? Has anyone heard what the impressions were of him during his time training at RFC?

For Castagna's position, reckon the club might look at drafting Kangaroo Jack in the midseason draft. Add some physicality to the team.

He's not from round 'ere but he don't mess around.
