Given IQ’s proximity to Bucks, JDG was trying to get a reaction, (which he knew IQ couldn’t do).
Typical boy fun.
Anyone trying to make this about race is way off the mark
I don’t believe it’s about race. It is inappropriate though.

Why should anyone change to appease the me too world? Sorry, this right here is the very problem with the world.
So you're saying you refuse to stop groping random boobies out of principle. Well ok.. hadn't anticipated that argument.

Because it's being investigated by the AFL maybe??
Times change my friend. You must bend like the reed in the storm or snap like the tree.

It's a bit of harmless fun except that it was caught on camera, just like the phones were a few weeks back, another incident involving De Goey. Also the seriousness of the action depends on what was happening with the group. If this was the pre game rev-up then De Goey should have been preoccupied with what Bucks was saying. Of course, some of the players may have gone beyond respecting the coach now. One thing about Collingwood football club, it sure knows how to keep the spotlight turned upon the club and the players.

P
Do you think it's a bad look that it seems to be mainly the black players who get their private areas groped at football clubs?

Didn't Lumumba point out that a lot of Collingwood players were obsessed with his dick because he was black?

Didn't we just have a 3 month investigation called the Do Better report were we agreed to not treat black people poorly?

Yep... dumb as dogshit this is. If it's REALLY not a problem (and don't forget IQ is just a kid trying to fit in) then do it in private FFS, not on national TV.
Plenty of footage of white boys being touched in team huddles. I wouldn't give any oxygen to anything that ex player said when others claim he openly boasted about his anaconda to female supporters. I'd say he is the one with the obsession.

I'm not a club defender by any means but see nothng newsworthy here. I can't see why we'd blame the club.

I'm surprised that the media's role in making an article out of this hasn't been discussed. It shows the extent of sensationalism that exists and how much the player's lives are under the microscope.

This level of invasiveness... not sure any amount of money would be worth it.

I understand why the AFL are investigating it given that any other response from them now would paint them as an organisation not exercising due diligence.

It's bizarre.

mhmm, you must’ve forgotten countless black people who literally said “I didn’t speak up because I was young and trying to fit in”...

also we recently had the Mabior Chol shitstorm where Richmond players tried to grope him because he was black, now we have a Collingwood player, on Indecent Assault charges, after the “Do Better” report, sticking his finger into a young black teammates ass...

If you can’t see any problem with that then I dunno what else to say
Agree completely with your views.
For those saying there was nothing in it, you may be right in the context of a suburban football game in a Div 3 league.
But this has come up a few times this year.
And De Goey is facing sexual assault charges.
And our team is shit.
And we've been through the "Do Better" stage.

How ****ing dumb is De Goey?

I’m sure the media need to make something like this ‘newsworthy’.

Hopefully the AFL just leave it to the Pies to ‘educate’ the players why a bit of harmless farm could be viewed differently.

I wonder what would have happened if IQ did it to JDG?

Or JDG did it to his best mate at the club?

And yes it may be disrespectful to the coach, but I could just imagine how tense it would have been and so having a bit of fun could at least bring it down a notch.

I was using the term 'club' very loosely, meaning anyone employed within it. As such, it's not 'the club' that is to blame but rather the individual who was engaged in an activity that provided the media with an opportunity to discredit the club. It's the second time in weeks that De Goey has been caught on camera in the dressing rooms doing something 'newsworthy'.

The actual incident doesn't look so bad on video where it is seen more in a context. As for the level of invasiveness, it's really only damaging if you are caught and if you are doing something wrong, as the Victorian treasurer said about the new rates for traffic fines which have all just risen 10% (why is Labor more punitive than the Libs when it comes to collecting fines?! Then people get upset when Victoria is rightly referred to as a police state)).

95% of footballers totally avoid any unwanted media attention. De Goey is seemingly incapable of realising that change rooms on game day are heavily scrutinised by media.

I don't blame the media, especially more traditional outlets. They're suffering their own blowtorch of competition, which means they need to amplify these sorts of events and make them a talking point.

They feed 'the market' whatever they think it wants. Blame the market, the consumers. It's why we have more 'journalists' covering AFL than federal politics.

I don't mind some scandal and rumour. Love me some drama. But there's little sense of proportion these days, so we have news outlets and their harvesters of banality willing to go over the top every second day for little reason at all.

On this occasion, I don't at all give a f*** that De Goey didn't give any f*** about 'optics'. Optics is overrated.

Just on that TGG, do you feel that he might be hunted by the media because he is newsworthy?

This is not to discount your views that he should be savvy to this and adjust his behaviour accordingly so that he is more guarded.

I would say he is a victim of his own notoriety and that the media do focus on him in the belief that he will eventually give them something 'newsworthy'. Personally, I don't understand why such a trivial act needs to be brought to the attention of the general populace. It's a bit like dwelling on a player adjusting his testicles, pinching his penis or picking his nose. All of these actions, and I would include this bum pinch, are of no real consequence, and if inadvertently caught on camera, need not be highlighted or selected for further public consumption. But knowing how visuals can be used to manipulate public emotions, I do think De Goey should exercise a higher level of care.
