Universal Love Jed Anderson ...and his contract extension

Nah, mate, go to a game.
If he was so bad, why are the coaches keeping in the team?

At the ground you see the full picture. You will see Hill running, leading, dragging opponents with him. He'll lead out, run back, and lead again.
He doesn't often get rewarded, but he uses his huge tank to keep running.

Kicked a nice goal, too.

Watch it live and understand what's happening.
Correct, I have been in the leave Hill out camp for a while but your points are spot on, his work ethic is first class, he can do the unpredictable, has good pace and he spots up players in space very well, Hill stays for mine.

Now that Shiels is out, I feel like Jed would stay. No? I know they're not the same player, but for me Jed played well enough to retain his spot. Others can cover Shiels and we get a another well skilled, tough player in Jed who can definitely add to our attack and defence.

I think Savage offers more than Hill in a finals level pressure game. In my opinion they are comparable in terms of defensive pressure but Savage is more composed with the ball in hand.

Really...I think Savage has a tendency to kick and hope....Hill has better vision and an ability to lower his eyes when entering forward 50.

Savage has been excellent. I think his run, aggression and overhead marking has been a real plus for our team over the last couple of months. I would have savage ahead of hill and Anderson easily. Rematch the game against north and you will notice he is now covering an enormous amount of territory. Runs end to end. Wins his own ball down back and has started to run on to receive a handball even if he doesn't always get it. He will be critically important for moving the ball out of defence into attack. I am a huge whitecross fan and I would have savage in the 22 ahead of whitecross.

I wasn't questioning him as a player workrate etc....I was responding to another poster in regards to use of the ball in hand by foot.

Cannot think of a good reason to leave him out of the side. Even a slight improvement in poise this week would see him undroppable IMO.

I am not as enamoured as others but the lad offers too much in the clinches to leave him out in finals. In the frenzy of September I can see him and Poppa co-existing as interchangeable midfielders/defensive forwards. We will need those extra options as Sewell, whilst still so important to us, has lowered his colours enough times this year for an extra stoppage contingency to be justified.

Taz hopefully will be back - he can do a run-with role if required, too. We really missed Pup on Saturday - after he went off, Harvey had a much bigger influence.

Just an aside, but people up here in the NT rate him as the next big thing after Cyril. My young fella is in the AFL academy up here and Jed is used as an example of what is needed to make it in AFL. Territory kids are expected to be hard nuts as they are playing often a hard brand of footy against bigger opponents particularly in the case of my son who is now 17 but was sixteen last year playing in A grade men's comp.

Shirkers get found out pretty quick. Cyril and Jed's tackling and pressure are not just through talent but a necessity up here.

PS: We don't have tackle bags up here so kids start on 2m live salties (crocs) and work up to 5 metres by U18's (it gives them a bit of focus):D

The reason for Jed being the poster boy is more to do with what he's achieved off field
Young footballers from the territory tend to be more vulnerable to the pressures of being a role model
Anderson stood up when it appeared he was ready to fall apart
Yes, he's a brilliant player, but the AFL have realized player welfare is just as important
That is why Je. Is in that position
Its more then on field

What you say is part true but I can tell you that Jed is looked up to here with what he does on field not off field. All the kids know he is a jet and thats why they love him (we have a relatively small footy circle up here). Kids 15,16,17 etc really don't care about off field issues. What they care about is what they see in the flesh or on TV.

As for NT kids feeling the pressure of being role models, that's BS, some from the communities maybe but they are uncomfortable even in Darwin. The Davey's, Rioli's Long's, Stokes, Motlops, Buckleys etc never seem to have a problem.

NORTHERN LIGHTS DOCUMENTARY

“Northern Lights – A Season with NT Thunder” - the documentary about NT Thunder’s Historic 2011 Premiership Season will have its Premiere Broadcast on NITV on Wednesday 28th August, 8.30pm - Free to air Channel 34 & Foxtel Channel 144.

Northern Lights is a documentary giving total behind the scenes access in the exciting roller-coaster 2011 season of NT Thunder, a senior Australian Rules football team that represents the Northern Territory. But NT Thunder is no ordinary team. Based in Darwin, 60 per cent of the team is indigenous with many players travelling thousands of kilometres every week from remote areas such as Bathurst Island, Alice Springs, Nhulunbuy, Jabiru and Katherine to play. NT Thunder plays in the north eastern states league clocking up more than 100,000 kilometres travelling interstate, pitting remote indigenous players against professional players from national AFL teams. NT Thunder is the brainchild of Australian rules indigenous football legend, Michael Long, who through a combination of talent and hard work was a trail blazer on the field and remains a strong advocate for Aboriginal rights off it. Long used his influence with government and the private sector to create NT Thunder in 2009, with the objectives of being a pathway to assist talented indigenous players reach their potential in the national AFL whilst promoting education, health and general wellbeing. The strict rule is to play for NT Thunder all players must be either working or studying.

Surprised no one has jizzed in this thread after his HTB and goal!!

Which was great but needs to find more of it as sub. I think whether he plays next week will depend on who else is available

Great tackle and followed it up with a goal. Also great to see the others getting around him after the HTB decision.

I really like that he made the mistake in the first place and then set about fixing it in the blink of an eye and joey no less - fantastic tackle and goal

I think Bruce summed it up well after he kicked the goal......."shows real temperament to lay the tackle and go back and slot the crucial goal".......
Just got to keep getting games into him. Gives you everything he's got.
Future Hawthorn captain for mine....
