I might be nit picking here. I haven’t seen JDG in person... but, would anyone else love to see him with a few kg’s shredded off him?

He is such a power athlete, and thats why he is who he is... but i think it would benefit him greatly.. in terms of getting out a full season, covering more ground etc.

Once again, just being picky here... Would have no complaints if he stays the way he is and continues his trajectory 😂 just curious on other peoples thoughts.

I get your angle and don’t see it as nitpicking. I would just say his weight is right and his problem is that he isn’t rock hard. We’ve all seen Cripps’ rig and that’s where he needs to get to, IMO.

If he can improve his skinfolds to that next level there’ll be no issues with fitness and covering the ground. Problem is I just don’t think the application is there to reach those levels.

Yeah spot on. Cripps had a similar soft looking body prior to that big pre season where he just came back shredded. I dream of JDG showing up day 1 of pre season with a rig like that every year.

Its a funny one isn’t it. I agree, i just don’t think he is wired like that. His not really giving a shit attitude is probably why he is so good. I wouldn’t be surprised to see his performance dip as a result of things like strict dieting, and living inside A gym to get shredded. Just doesn’t seem to be wired in that manner. Very much Swanny like in that he is a competitive beast, but doesn’t live and breath football.

I would be happy if he had the same rig as Swanny.
It's about how he plays, couldn't give a rats how he looks.

COLLINGWOOD

Established gun:
No surprises that skipper Scott Pendlebury is looking a million bucks – he always has. But the fact he continues to set the standard despite being the Magpies' oldest player – he'll be 32 on January 7 – is remarkable, and partly explains his greatness. Returned to training early as usual to work with the youngsters.

Gen next: Promising Tyler Brown was close to making his AFL debut this year and continues to take significant strides in his development, both in his physique and as a midfielder. The lean onballer improved his 2km time trial considerably and has impressed with his sure hands and onball craft work.

New faces: The Pies' first pick in the draft, Jay Rantall (pictured below), wowed watchers when he dethroned time trial specialist Tom Phillips, but he made it clear at a press conference that he was keen to impress with his footy skills and not simply his athletic prowess. Although he still has much to learn, the former basketballer has already shown in training drills he can match it physically with more experienced midfielders. - Ben Collins

I get what you mean. But Its not really about how he looks. More about how his body looks and the impact that has performance, because a lot of the time those two are correlated.

I wanna see him play full seasons, and play more mid minutes.

So in essence you want him to be fit, but primarily durable.
Look at the players who fill that mould over the last 30 years.
Not many cut greyhounds among them.
Most are about Jordy's build. Fit, but not cut.
Stockier rather than leaner and shorter with a lower centre of gravity than an athlete.

Yes, and Swan is a perfectly example of this. Darcy would fit the other mould, most think he looks like an adonis, but he struggles to get on the field at times.

Good point. Although i dont know if anyones got the time or dedication to check the injury history of players with different builds for the last 30 years 😂

but, here we are. Jordy isn’t ‘cut’, and has had injuries most of these recent years, which are the same years he has seemed to have filled out.

I don’t see how the body types of other Players around the league is too relevant. Im talking about Jordy Specifically. I think to get the best out of himself each year he needs to change something.

Now, that something could be his pre game routine, i don’t really know. But, id just love to see him a bit lighter and see if that works. I could totally be wrong and he still gets the same annoying injuries.

I don’t think its about oh this players skinny he gets injured, this blokes built like Jordy, he doesn’t get injured. Each player is an individual case. In Jordy’s case somethings gotta change to get a full year out of him. That something could be a few less kilo’s. Stress reactions in the leg suggests to me it could be beneficial. Although im not a doctor and i’ve got no idea if they could be related, so someone else is probably better off commenting on that

Did anyone else go today to the open session?

I was there, but mostly was socialising with some friends and didn't catch all the action.

What I do know is that after Jamie warmed up, he went inside, maybe he saw the conditions and decided not to risk his body? Who knows.

Mayne was out there, but in a jacket and not training. This would be the third time he hasn't been training. I'm not sure what's up with that. taylor Adams and Appleby were on the bikes.

In the rehab group you had: Phillips, Cal brown, Quaynor, Noble, Dunn, Greenwood, Daicos.

De Goey running sessions.

The rest participated in match sims, and groups of transitional work.

Even though they aren't on the AFL list, but those VFL players training with us.. damn they are good. There was some really good tackling, marking stuff I have seen even from our own players.
The one that's a Beams lookalike is especially good.

I have the names of them, just haven't put name to player except the blonde who is Kaden schrieber. I have had these names confirmed to me of our VFL signings, that haven't been announced yet.

Shaz looked like he played a little midfield time, also back in defense as well.

Merry christmas everyone, next update in the new year!

Hopefully they’ve finally twigged that part of having a strong senior team involves having a strong VFL team. Cheers Jen.

I heard Mayne say “when you have done 13 preseasons you don’t need to do every single thing and you can afford to miss one” I reckon he will ramp up his training after Christmas when it’s closer to the footy season starting. Also noticed Elliott not out there, hopefully he hasn’t injured that hammy. Maybe he didn’t want to deal with all the signatures and photos and crazy people 😂😂

He might want to give the memo to Pendles I think he must have missed that class.

I saw Elliott briefly but ran back inside shortly. My friend was disappointed as she came to see him haha

This could actually be true haha. The poor bloke got mobbed by 50 kids at Chadstone Adidas shop a couple of weeks ago. My wife told him he needed to buy a hat and he laughed and put his hood on after he was done with the selfies.

Next they'll realise that it doesn't help our VFL team when two thirds of them need to play in the seniors each week because the seniors are in the injury ward.

I managed to get down to training but just caught the back end being the team v team handball games. Was impressed with the intensity from the boys, a few observations:

- Varcoe doesn't like being tackled, really hits hard and at one point was caught with the ball and ended up putting the tackler down hard, looks like he wants to hurt people even on the track.
- Sier looks very fit, I was rapt to see some nice movement and power from him, setup and score multiple handball goals. Good signs. If he keeps this up and has a good run in a couple of preseason games he's in the side for round 1 surely.
- Wills another that was impressive, shrugged numerous tackles and freed his hands a number of times, strong boy and stood out in the handball game.
- Grundy, just a beast. So agile and smart for a big man, was taken on at one stage 1on1 by who I think was Atu, Grundy wrapped him up easily.
- Sidebottom doesn't stop running. Constantly making plays.
- Lynch at one point almost fell over himself, I hope he comes good but jeez... one of the Irish boys looked much more balanced.
- Shaz looks to have gained more confidence in his lateral movement, looked poised, hopefully this preseason sets him up for a sustained run.
- Jeremy Howe looks a million dollars. Miraculous goal line diving save at one stage was typical Howey, another one that I hope can avoid injury, such an important part of our back 6.
- Couple of unknowns looked very good, one was a blonde fella with leg tatts, was wearing number 3 today, not sure if he's a VFL boy but he looked very strong and tackled hard. Another was a big boy, looked a key fwd type, also moved well.

Highlight of the day was Brodie signing a Guernsey I took with me for my Mrs. When i mentioned it was for her he was nice enough to ask her name and wrote it on there for her. Brownie points for me. 😎

Anzacday perhaps the VFL boys are on notice in relation to our discussion yesterday in the Beams thread and out to impress? There’s one in particular that seems to be putting himself forward and has even drawn comparisons to Beamer.
