MRP / Trib. Jeremy Cameron makes contact with umpire while celebrating a goal

I don't recall ever implying that should be the case.

Silly generalisations, arguing in bad faith and using smooth brain strawman arguments.

You really don't offer much to this thread do you ?

It would be difficult to offer less than you who stated the "whole incident ended up being quite endearing" and was "great optics for the game."

Given part of the incident involved a player carelessly running into an umpire at top pace while the ball was not in play, those statements you made miss the point of the thread entirely.

What a footballer he is-best in the comp by a country mile.

One of the better small game uncontested players I have ever seen for sure.

You may want to look at his record from 6 Preliminary and Grand Finals before putting him into any other best of conversations.

Jeremy Cameron 6 x Grand Finals and Preliminary Finals

Averages: 10.6 disposals, 4.1 contested possessions, 1.5 goals + 0.66 goal assists per Preliminary and Grand Final.

Best player in the game?....yeeeeeeeeahhhhhnope.

By a country mile? If he was the best player in the game his big game record would make him the worst best player in the game in history, by a country mile. :)

This tread looks like a bit of a trainwreck

Did anything end up coming from this? Fine? Just a comment?

AFL was dynamite on any umpire contact several years back, accidental or otherwise. Calmed down I guess

MRO didnt even mention it being looked at.

Hopefully Toby Greene knocks an umpire flat on his arse on the weekend.

The fact that a small percentage seemingly genuinely wanted some sort of punishment rather than seeing it for the hilarious event it was is pretty pathetic. Sanity prevails in the end.

The fact that the AFL has penalties for accidental contact with umpires but chose to ignore it shows they incompetent.

To not even mention it in their summary is beyond ridiculous.

Let's not forget what it actually was then. A player accidentally flattened an umpire running full speed and not watching where he was going when play had stopped. In other words the player has recklessly flattened the umpire.

You do know that when a goal is scored that the boundary umpire retrieves the ball to take it back to the centre of the ground. They have forever cut in off the boundary to the front of the goal square to do this.

Someone who has never been to a game. Ive been watching football for more than 40 years and I dont think they have made many adjustments to how the ball is returned to the centre.

We are crying over spilt milk here. Yes the boundary comes onto the field to relay the ball to the middle, but in this instance the field umpire didn't even have the ball yet to hand over to the boundary ump.

The reason the AFL has ignored this incident probably is because the boundary umpire was as much at fault as Cameron. He appears to be looking directly at Cameron yet didn't "see" Cameron running towards him looking at the crowd. He could have stepped aside just like the field umpire did as Cameron ran past him.

Except the rule around accidental contact has the onus on the player to be aware where the umpires are. Cameron was jumping around like a dickhead, and should have been watching where he was going. He is lucky the umpire wasnt injured.

The field umpire never gets the ball after a goal until he receives it at the centre circle. One boundary umpire stands at the top of the goal square to accept it, then runs to the back of the centre square and passes it to the other boundary umpire who then gives it to the field umpire who is waiting at the centre circle.

Once the field umpire gives the all clear, he doesn't get involved in any way of transferring the ball until it reaches the centre.circle.

Is that from a ball up though?
Hitting an umpire from a ball up is usually a free kick or fine as the umpires generally give the players a warning, 'going behind' or 'backing out' so players know not to get in the way in the ruck contest.

This was as pure an accident as you can get, no one ever expects to run into a boundary umpire after a goal.

A lot of things nobody ever expects to happen can happen when you don't watch where you are going.
