MRP / Trib. Jeremy Cameron makes contact with umpire while celebrating a goal

If you look at the wide angle and see where the umpire is running in from, it's as much his fault as Cameron's which is why I suspect they didn't even fine him

No. The is umpire running to the goals to collect the ball as instructed & after play has stopped & the Field Umpire has signaled All Clear. He would have done that thousands of times before. There is no reason here why the umpire can't be inside the boundary line under these circumstances. He should have every right to expect that no one will negligently run into him. Cameron is not watching & totally negligent with this incident. The umpire Cameron collided with has done more than 260 AFL Games, at least 4 grand finals and 2 x All Australian so he would know what he is doing.

I’m sure he knows what he’s doing, but like Cameron, he obviously wasn’t paying enough attention to avoid the collision.

Cameron was focused on celebrating and the umpire was focused on doing his job, but part of his job is navigating the 36 players running around the field.

I’m not blaming him, but if either of them were paying enough attention the collision would have been avoided

It would be difficult to offer less than you who stated the "whole incident ended up being quite endearing" and was "great optics for the game."

Given part of the incident involved a player carelessly running into an umpire at top pace while the ball was not in play, those statements you made miss the point of the thread entirely.

Clearly nobody here thought of the children. That poor umpire. So impacted was he that he checks notes well nothing actually happened.

Taylor Walker just PULVERIZED an umpire on the way back to the middle just then. Expecting ambulance chaser Meteoric Rise to have a 10+ page thread up ASAP. This has GOT to stop!

Did they laugh about it? Because it's already been established through the Cameron incident that pulverising umpires is perfectly acceptable if you laugh about it.
