By the by... I'd like to put it out there that I know a handful of people that identify as something other than straight, but they have never actually done anything intimate that's not straight... don't understand it myself.

A couple of them used to say they were gay, turns out they were just trans. Still liked girls. I guess actually they are gay, but not in the way I was thinking. The man gay, not the woman gay.

Anyway, point is those stats might have people telling porkies in them.

You just have to look at the shit Dani Laidley cops, to know that a player coming out is gonna cop it from the ferals. I meant granted, the average ****wit does seem to despise trans people more than they hate gays, but they're still not going to accept them.

I'm actually not sure about that mate. Like I just said, I know some trans people. I think they've been accepted more than blokes who root other blokes. Of course some knuckle draggers still think of them as blokes, but that's not even close to everyone. As long as you're still rooting a girl at the end of the night, you know? Even in the AFLW everyone is still probably rooting girls.

And yet, he's been accepted in the AFL community and his former players etc, quite well.

LGBT - not homosexual. 'Games' for footy players involving minimally clothed teammates has gone on since the first ball was bounced. They'd then go home to wife/GF and swear (and think to themselves) they are 100% straight and punch anyone who said differently. Now they'd (at least in an anonymous survey) be willing to admit they aren't 100% straight. From that same article "More than half of LGBT Americans, 57%, indicate they are bisexual. "

Not that it really matters for what Finlayson said, but I'm sure there are both gay and bisexual players in the AFL, with the latter much more common. Diverging further, I'm sure Shane Crawford was going to come out as bi years ago, until he edged closer to admitting it and saw football supporters / society weren't yet far enough along to not give him a lot of grief for it.

You are right, Clarkson got slapped with wet lettuce when you consider his $1m+ a season, a $20k fine is really not that much.

it’s one thing Steven Rowe and Co on 5AA did not get this morning. That a precedent for this has, rightly or wrongly, been set.

I’m not going to say “this is worse than that”, but Walker got off lightly.

You can mount an argument that Walker’s incident was worse because it was more targeted and specific to the individual. But you can’t say 6 weeks for Walker and nothing for Clarkson is reasonable.

Clarkson should have missed weeks, as should Finlayson.

Nikola Jokic got fined $25k for saying "no homo" during a press conference and he earns tens of millions, or did at the time.

Advocated violence against women (drowning Caroline Wilson)
Made homophobic comments (Winter Olympics, men's figure skating)
Ridiculed people with a disability (amputee coin tosser)
Made demeaning comments based on religion (called Victorian sports minister John Eren a "soccer-loving, Turkish-born Mussie" at an AFL meeting; dismissed multicultural western Sydney as "the land of the falafel". )

Despite these repeated "gaffes" his opinion is consistently sought and is apparently credible on a range of topics.

Clarkson just saw his captain with a history of concussions get ironed out in a shocking head high, off the ball, targeted bump. He would've had a head full of steam, and rightly so, but he shouldn't have got involved in a heated exchange. But c*cksucker to a couple players that are most likely straight and would almost certainly not taken any offence whatsoever is hardly the same level as you've mentioned yourself the targeted and specific racism of Tex. At a game he wasn't even involved in too.
