Interesting take from ABC footy commentator Corbin Middlemas here. Most of the commenters disagree with him - I wonder how many of them know that Corbin is a gay man...

Corbin Dallas Multipass

Rowe is no different, and Kelli underwood was quick to compare it to the Tex racism ban when she was grilling kochie over the weekend (she also barracks for the crows).

I’m sick of crows fan journos going after our players significantly harder than any other player and I’m sick of lines in the sand and new standards being set when our players do the wrong thing.

Yep, and we've got our most prominent footy media former player trolling his own fans for engagement instead of lifting a solitary finger to back up his club.

And, to boot:

Used to work for them according to her X account.

Pretty shocking lack of transparency.

Although tempting to try and call it out and make a fuss, it would just boost the engagement score and in their twisted business model that means clicks, eyes and ad revenue.

Better off ignoring it and letting the 17 people that still read The Advertiser wallow

It’s not like it was broadcast though? It was essentially a private conversation. Has nothing to do with anyone else other than the person he said it to.

My sister is gay, and she couldn’t care a less about what he said.

It was picked up on a microphone.

Umpires do have a duty to follow the vilification rules.

The club was made aware and it's best to address it, unless you wanna try sweeping it under like the Walker comment?

Your sister isn't the spokesperson for how all gay people should feel. I mean we already went over the different standards for male/female acceptance of homosexuality in sport.

I’m not sure but from what I’ve read the Essendon player isn’t gay.
Sounds like he made some wuzz comment to Finn and he’s come back with a very out dated word that you don’t hear a lot these days.
I’m sure players use similar words or much worse with on ground exchanges.

Don't care and don't think it should be a factor.

This is what Crows fans did painting Walker as the heroic knight defending Matt Crouch the victim from the disgusting being that is Robbie Young.

Nothing excuses the behaviour and I am not painting Finlayson as a hero in any form.

However, in most workplace resolution processes, the full incident is reviewed, including the actions of all parties involved.

Also, in most workplace resolution processes, it isn’t trial by media who selectively report the facts. The process happens behind close doors without leaks or statements.

Regardless of any collective bargaining agreements, the AFL have screwed this because of the lightness of the Clarkson penalty. Any penalty handed to Finlayson will always be view through a lens of consistency.

I don’t think “community standards” have evolved so significantly in 2 months that a massive penalty can be justified. Clarkson should have gone for weeks, that was the community standards in March and Finlayson should as well. But for the AFL….

A suspended 4 week suspension

Match payment fine.

That's the right outcome. The club accept any different without appealing it they are letting Jez down.
Yeah, I like this one.

A decent to good fine and if he says or does anything homophobic for the year then he gets weeks.

Players will just make sure their epithets against the opposition are more generic and not specific.

In the end, you have to really know what the Essendon player said to Finny and whether it was over the game, etc.

It seems a bit out of Finny but who knows.

Wtf is a wuzz comment?

Why the delay in a penalty being announced? Let’s not kid ourselves, the AFL, like most corporate bodies are now governed by progressive ideologies. We must be patient & allow the AFLs Diversity, Inclusiveness & Equity department to do a thorough investigation before handing down their verdict.

Being sorry is not good enough anymore comrades, you must be punished & humiliated for the greater good.

I was never suggetsing to sweep it under the carpet. Finlayson did quite the opposite. He said something stupid, recognised it, owned up, apologised, and I assume the apology was accepted.

I don't understand why we need a 5 day coronial enquiry to solve something that feels like it was solved in the moment?

Because they know they've set a direct, and recent, precedent with Clarkson - but know they are under pressure to crack down harder this time.

So they let it stew in public for several days, media will continue to comment while the case is unresolved and all former players as they always do will continue to whinge that they should throw the book at the player because we all know those former players were angels when they played. And after all the commentary the AFL will feel justified in breaking their own precedent by handing down a heavier penalty to Jez.

Typical AFL propaganda bullshit.

Well that I completely agree with.

But there does need to be some sort of punishment, it just shouldn't be taking this long to figure it out.

It really is. But judging from many of responses on this thread, the Clowns are plentiful.
I think all of the responses here are on the side of the 'full investigation' being completely ridiculous.

You're confusing 'he did something wrong' with 'yes it totally warrants a royal commission'.

What planet are you on? Regardless of what your views are, did you honestly think the AFL would let it slide in this day and age?
It's not about letting it slide but just dealing with it in an appropriate and timely manner. They are letting this drag on purely for the theatre to then come out and be the moral Police as per usual, the Clarkson case a month ago made it easy for them to give Finny a fine and a good telling off but they are no doubt going to escalate the penalty as it's easier to take out their morality on a B grade footballer from a non-vic club then they can beat their collective chests.

You’re walking down the street with your daughter and someone calls her a sl-t. Do you…

A) Stand up for her
B) Tell her to stop crying because it’s just a word
C) High 5 the assailant and congratulate him on not bowing to the woke PC clown crowd
D) Both B and C
The analogy being the AFL is the parent and the Essendon player is their daughter?? 😳
