Probably just proves that most players, even though they are of this weakened generation think that these sort of "slurs" are fine and don't believe they should be punished at all, but toe the company line and gargle what the AFL/Media Managers tell them to say because their incomes rely on it. Its not what they really think.

I reckon he had every opportunity to provide that context on the podcast. Or they could have take that segment out. Or re-recorded it. These are not just unfortunate nasty things that keep happening to poor old Jeremy. These are things he's doing.



He's hurting himself and the club. Given the reports of abuse being directed at his wife, and of rocks being thrown at their house, it sounds like he's hurt his family as well.

Anyone who abused his wife or threw rocks is of course a worthless coward, but why invite them for another go?



The AFL stated very clearly that Finlayson would have been suspended for longer but for the immediate contrition he showed.

His comments on the podcast make his earlier contrition seem insincere. If the AFL forms that impression, they'll be furious. They might take further action. If a player lies to an AFL investigation, then brags about or otherwise discloses that they lied, they can probably slap the player with a penalty for bringing the game into disrepute.

I'm not saying Finlayson lied or that he is not contrite (but I do believe he was whinging about being hard done by), but why would invite the question?



The AFL hasn't asked the club to do anything. The club has written a statement for Jeremy to read because he couldn't manage to either shut up about the incident or at least make sure that every comment he made was inescapably clear.

If the incident is something about which he feels deep shame and remorse, I'm surprised he wants to publicly comment on it at all. If he feels like he let his teammates and the club down, then he could have said exactly that in the first place.

His original comments weren’t manipulated. He just did an extremely poor job of explaining himself to the point that it seemed like his original remorse was insincere.

He has since clarified his comments with what he should’ve said initially, if he had to say anything at all.
 
Jeremy know he would cop a hit for what he said. I am pretty sure that his saying he was 'p!ssed off at the 3 week suspension' was in reference to the double standards of Clarkson getting let off lightly after his homophobic rant.

The PA has already called out the AFL over this! There was just no need to do it again. As others have said ...

Nobody is having a go at him for expressing himself, but when he's a public figure he needs to do so in a way that doesn't bring his employer into disrepute. If he'd just said what he said during the clarification to begin with this wouldn't be a story

No one is saying that he should not express himself. We are saying that it's probably not the smartest thing to do with an active mic. It is even less smart to then just push 'publish' on that thing.

Extremely poor at expressing himself articulately, so his ideal course of action
should just be to shut up and do his time.

Comes back and after a couple of weeks no one remembers it happened.

Now, it'll run the rest of the season, and potentially train wrecks our season.

P***ed off with Jez - and, more particularly, his wife.

They should know better than to go down that rabbit hole.

Simply because we know how the AFL works these days.
They could easily throw the book at him.

If he cops treble the suspension, well that's on him, and he made the mistake, so he has to cop it.

But it has the potential to turn into a catastrophe for him - and more importantly, the club - which is far more important to me.

People have every right to express their annoyance at perceived injustices towards them, no issue with that.

But........ they can't expect most other people to defend them if they bring more injustice on themselves, and their employer (PAFC) through their own stupidity.
