He'd walk into the starting 18 of any club, except Port Adelaide it appears.
Body of work over 3 seasons continues to say “yeah”.
Disposals, contested, DE…Marks, Metre gained..
One stood up in his first finals.
One went missing again. Not one GA medal vote in 5 finals.
Bloke was “born” for Sept is what we all had rammed down our throats.
Just a comparison of a player Port sold the farm for to better value mid season selection.Aren't Hawthorn great? Jai Newcombe thread.

Born for Sept we were told. Turns out his questionable temperament was again exposed.
Flops around for frees Selwood style. Never called out for it. Got a free kick for falling over into a team mate
Still a good player, but funny how the media narrative is so favorable for a diver

He got most of his disposals when the game was over, as he did against Geelong. He is 21, and leading disposal winner for our team last night. No support from other senior mids. He ran himself ragged last night to compensate for the lack of effort by Wines, Butters and Rozee.
What about his 23 other games this year that got us to the prelim in the first place?
Our coach likes to move him deep forward when we’re struggling to find avenues to goal which then leaves him to watch the ball bouncing around upfield as a spectator
Our coach is a moron.
I think you’ll find that his coach at South Adelaide, Jared Wright, did the exact same thing. And it’s pretty simple to tell why. He even said so whilst JHF was there.
Away from the stoppage he becomes a bit of liability in the midfield. He simply just doesn’t find enough footy or play his part in linking up chains of general play. Plus although it looks sublime when it comes off, if he doesn’t get the ball on the fly from stoppage, he usually leaves his opponent in a dangerous spot and unopposed.
Ever watch your forward line in action?
Bloke has had 1 full preseason in his 3rd season because North medical staff were incompetent.Body of work over 3 seasons continues to say “yeah”.

Pretty sure they get called 'crafty' for milking frees constantly. They get called out plenty by the media and the commentators.
Have yet to hear much about JHF and his diving antics.
Cameron is another that gets away with it.
“Doesn’t find enough of the footy”
Averaging 21.8d as a bloke who just turned 21 and spending plenty of time up forward (averaged 1.1 goals a game)
How much footy would he be finding if we didn’t put him forward so much?
If you watched port games you would know these things to be true
1. We moved jhf forward when we were struggling to find avenues to goal, which was a massive issue this year and got worse as the year went on with Todd missing games
2. Our coaches had zero idea who to find a midfield balance and who to leave out.
All of jhf , drew , wines , rozee and butters are our preferred on ballers , and all year we never looked to have a properly settled group and sorted rotations. Some games Hinkley was starting jhf on the bench, sometimes butters sometimes drew. Sometimes he rannwithncerifan players through there and other times completely different players.
Even come the last game of the year he was still experimenting, nearly a year after preseason where that shit should have been sorted.
Our coach is a tactical vegetable.
3. Yes he’s aggressive. Why would we want to change that. Most of the best mids are. Anyone wanna go back and tell me Judd and Ablett weren’t as aggressive?
It is what separates them from the rest.
4. Probably could do with a bigger tank, it’s still developing at 21, and he could find more ball outside of stoppages.
These are things that are not holding him back from anything other than being the greatest player in the game. If his outside ability and engine were better he would win 10 Brownlows in a row. Who the hell is perfect?
Mate, I think we’ll have to agree to disagree. Particularly around your point that he’d be find heaps more footy if he spent more time midfield. IMO just doesn’t find enough footy away from the stoppage contest, compared to other top flight midfielders.
I’ve had this opinion of JHF since his draft year after watching heaps of his footy at South.
I admittedly got lambasted about it then, and I’m sure plenty still don’t agree, but personally I think it’s turned out to be pretty accurate.
Think he might need a restraining order against you. Relax and tone down the infatuation. It’s not my opinion, it’s fact.
If he finds 21.8d while spending time out of the midfield , he would find more if he didn’t get moved forward as much.
And I never said “heaps more” that’s you trying to take my argument to somewhere it wasn’t.
Yes he could find more ball on the outside , that’s something Ive always flagged , but it’s hardly a big issue when he finds so much of it in the contest.
Like what do you want from him? 30d a game? If he was getting close to that he would be the greatest player to ever play the game.
Serious question: Don't you question his heart/commitment the way he left North Melbourne?“Doesn’t find enough of the footy”
