Review JLT vs West Coast - 2018

Fourth Quarter: it began as if it were 2017; our kicking, especially goal kicking was not good; we kept pressuring high, and WC had trouble moving up the field.

When WC finally got I50, we made an error, and they scored a behind. Right after it, the umpire called a controversial "no-15," and the Eagles took the lead.

Game went a bit back and forth, but we kept moving the ball well. Again, we are trying to move forward, first; only opting to keep possession as an alternative. We managed to handball fast out of pressure — our goal begins with that and ends up with a free Dixon inside the goal square.

We kept pressuring up high, despite the heat. Still, our big numbers were at the back, and WC managed to put the ball I50. We failed to take it out, and they got a mark. It should have been goal, but the kick was bad for a behind. Rare moment of bad defense from Port.

Their goal came when we were playing a similar set up: forwards pressuring up; rest of the team deep back. They used the open space in the middle to kick for the win.

It is good that this has happen. JLT matches are important because of the mistakes. I am not sure this set-up is the right one. It failed twice in the last minutes of the game.

OK. Those are my impressions on the fourth quarter.

Watch the replay. It was a bread & butter tackle for Dixon. It was neither a tackle or bump. He tackles we win simple. Which part don’t you understand?

I dunno, maybe thinking outside of just that actual moment.

The question is why Dixon was left to defend the corridor and why Jetta was loose in the middle (he wasn't an irrelevant player and therefore should have had someone close enough to him to effect him - as per coaches words at inside port). Neither of these things are or should be left to our CHF. In the rush of our players to get everyone back, we failed to defend the middle and so they just went right over our numbers in defence. Dixon was the only ****er in the right position and he pays the visible price for the collective failure of the team.

We kick every set shot, we win.
We win that clearance, we win.
We do X Y or Z and we win. It's all very silly to say one moment cost us the game, it's just the most visible and last thing you remember that you feel cost you the game.

Cause the game was there to be won in the dying moments. We flooded back. Jetta flew off half back & to his credit won the game for them.

There is a saying related to American football that seems fitting:

"Prevent defense prevents you of winning."

Currently Freo are 45 points up and making mincemeat of them. Andrew Gaff got 35 disposals against us, at 3/4 time against Freo he has 15. Jack Redden 26, against Freo 8. Luke Shuey 26, against Freo 11. Lewis Jetta 21, against Freo 13. Mark Hutchings 21, against Freo 11. And all of these players have played over 80% of the game against Freo.

Perhaps Janus can explain this away?
