So we have to now watch 7 news to get thrown a few crumbs. This is agonising. If they had a heart at AFL HQ , they would see to it a resolution before this steaming turd of a year is vanquished

Can guarantee you 7 will dangle a carrot in the intro like there's some sort of information to divulge.

They'll have nothing to say other than rehash what we know already from this whole saga thus far.

Eagles issued a statement on the website

“The hearing was completed but the outcome will not be known for some time”

looks like more of the same shit

Your fingers must be bloody stumps. 115k+ posts in less than a day.

I tip my hat to you.

I can achieve amazing things when I set my mind to it.

Out of interest,

When these things occur. Is the offender (ie Rioli in this case) innocent until proven guilty?

Eg. In theory could they keep playing up until the point Asada hand down a penalty?
But instead most clubs opt to start a provisional sentence in anticipation of a ban and speed up the time till they can clean the slate and return?

My point being, if he ends up copping 4 years for this, in hindsight he was better off to just keep playing for us last year and help us win a premiership.

If that's how it works, cases in the future might just consider playing on and then retiring when the hammer comes down in 18-24months.

I'll bet ASADA would speed up their process if the offending party is still playing competitive sport too, it highlights ASADA's incompetance every week they run out onto the field.

Works the opposite way. Guilty until proven innocent.

So if you play Rioli it's an automatic DQ. Or if left long enough so say that he plays every game of the season and you win the premiership, every game you played is a DQ.

The result of the hearing should be known with in the next 18 to 20 months.
Then the appeal process will take two to three years.
could be back on the field by 2008
To be fair, this isn't a little jumper punch that the AFL Tribunal can go in a room for 20 minutes and make a decision.

Suspect there will also be a fair bit of behind the scenes negotiating going on between the AFL and ASADA.

Evidently it was a fair hearing , Eagles cautiously hoping / expecting two years rather then the maximum 4 year ban .
Either party can appeal the verdict which will put Willie on hold until appeal is completed ...so it's not over until it's over .

But at the rate these guys move, appealing the verdict may take longer than the 4 year suspension.

The best facts that could come out.

1. He poured the Gatorade in, hopefully a red or blue Gatorade, not a yellow one, in front of the tester in an obvious way.

2. The tester straight away called him on it and he carried out a proper test without objecting.

If that happened could see a reduced sentence as no intent to deceive and could argue frustration/stupidity, and he takes the rap for the positive weed result.

If he did try and deceive the tester then watch out.
We may not ever know. Isn't it a confidential process? No problem if the accused wants it confidential, but no prosecutor should ever be able to hide the specific circumstances of the case unless a witness is at risk. Justice must be seen to be done, but this like all similar cases is not about justice. It is about upholding the reputation of ASADA and even WADA, whatever the cost to athletes. Sadly, it all hangs on the testimony of the tester. Who was the tester? What is their testimony? How are they qualified, trained, mentored and monitored? I don't want to dump on the tester, but the system is very amateur, and sportspeople's livelihoods and reputations are at stake. If WADA, which runs the system, is so good, then how did they miss Russian state doping etc etc.

A month until the verdict not so bad I suppose.
If backdated a 2 yr sentence would mean he join in the 2022 preseason (or 2021 finals which is unlikely after not playing for 2 years), or the year after if 3 yrs. Can't see us keeping him if more than 3.5 yrs (4 yrs) since he won't play again until 2024 when he's already 29. 4 years out of the game is a bloody long time.

The Willie Rioli hearing is complete. By all reports it was a fair hearing and lasted a few hours. Rioli was able to have his say, a lot of written evidence was also submitted, which needs to be analysed. Verdict unlikely to come any time soon. Details tonight,
@7NewsPerth
A fair hearing is not a hearing more than a year after the alleged offence. A fair hearing would also be based on the rule of law, not the 'rule of sport'. Oh and a fair hearing would mean the facts and details are public except where transparency would expose an involved party to unacceptable risk. It would be interesting to know who the judges are, what the facts are, why it will take more than a year to get a verdict, and what the hell the sentencing regime for AFL has got to do with the 4-year Olympic cycle.
