As an Essendon poster said, I don't see how this deal gets done now. Frankly, I hope we can keep Joe and rekindle his love for the game by keeping him on the park. Why would they ask that? The entire premise of this trade radio thing is built on little snippets of information that are provided that joe public doesn't have access to. They've got hours to fill up to keep Hutchy and the advertisers happy, Gill too as he'd rather people talking about the game than talking about soccer/cricket/basketball/whatever. Whoever told him had cause to believe it would end up in the public forum so they've done so for some reason or they don't care about that. There would be dozens of people aware of what's being said in the discussions either directly or 2nd hand. Essendon, Sydney, TLA, maybe Joe himself and then anybody they'd told. There's no cone of silence here, the real question is why are you so upset?

This is the thing. Joe is under contract and Essendon don't want to sell him. EFC have suggested what might make them agree to a trade. To my mind it's up to Sydney to come to Essendon with an offer which meets the criteria otherwise they can't really want Joe that much.

Why would the AFL care? They’re the ones that set up the media circus we call trade radio, they want drama and leaks and “journalism”. That’s how they stay on the front page.

This is the thing. Joe is under contract and Essendon don't want to sell him. EFC have suggested what might make them agree to a trade. To my mind it's up to Sydney to come to Essendon with an offer which meets the criteria otherwise they can't really want Joe that much.

It might seem that way but I think Dodoro would be on the phone just as often as Sydney’s people. Even if it ends up being two separate trades, we find something to spend pick 5/? on and once we have that then do the deal with Sydney before ontrading for whatever else we find. One won’t happen without the other being ready to go though.
