This isn't a troll, and you guys know I don't bad-mouth Collingwood players for no reason, but I'm genuinely concerned about this bloke.

Just on a personal level, hes either been to a solarium, or gotten a fake tan, and he has coloured his hair orange, and just all-round behaviour is very strange, which I'm sure others would agree with.

But on a footballing level, he just doesn't seem to be a Collingwood-type player in my eyes  I can't explain it, but he just doesn't fit in to the 22. I know we need his type of body and position but he just doesn't do the right things at odd times. He gave away a push in the back free kick, not once, or twice, but three times in the space of 45 minutes on Saturday night, and that is very stupid, from an AFL footballer.

I just don't see him as a type thats fitting into the Malthouse uncompromising, professional set up.

EDIT: This isn't just about Saturday night, its been on my mind for a few weeks.

nope, i just think that in his 2nd year of top flight football he is having a down period, he is after all 21.

As for what he does in his personal life really doesn't concern me, Swanny's tat hasn't hindered his from one bit...

Maybe our expectations are a little too high at this stage.

It's a fair observation, he has been struggling of late, even if the umpire did crucify him in my eyes on the weekend.

His last 6 weeks or so have been poor by his standard, and hence the recent inclusion of Dawes to sure up the forward line a bit.

The problem with Jack is, as he has stated himself, was that he had an unusual upbringing that has made his personality a little bit different to others, and this may be slowing his development as a player.

He is still young though, and if I'm not wrong, about the same age as Tom Hawkins who is also struggling at the moment.

Worth persisting with, he will almost certainly win our goal kicking this year, but we do have the likes of Rocca and Fraser looking as if they are about to return, so forward line spots in the finals may be handed out on form.

Still developing.

As long as Anthony is performing his role in the team this really is irrelevant

Thats a very fair point which I didn't think of.

But as others have said, I might be over-reacting, but he just seems like a strange character, and just doesn't seem like the other boys. Plus, his on-field antics can be a bit...different.. at times, compared to others. (Headbutting a crotch lol)

I have not read any of the other responses.

JA is young, very driven to succeed and under enormous pressure as our key forward, mainly due to circumstance.

He may be having trouble with the onfield pressure he is under to perform every week.

I can't think of any other key forward who has been thrown in so early and for such an extended period.

He'll come good.:thumbsu:

I like that he is not just one of the boys.

Gary Ablett snr is a very odd cat. Not trying to compare them onfield, just stating that it takes all sorts to make up a team. He is young and relatively inexperienced. He is comparable with the best going around at this stage of his career. He is ahead of both Roughy and Buddy in terms of the number of goals he has kicked from 29 matches. He'll be right... or he won't... either way, let's enjoy the ride.

Oh, and since someone mentioned Hawkins as a comparison, Hawkins career thus far - 36 games - 47 goals. (1.30 pg)
JA 29 games - 62 goals. (2.14 pg)
Perhaps Hawkins has more upside as a power forward but the figures are compelling. Hawkins is 6 months younger.

Jack Anthony in love. Sounds like a wacky new sitcom from the makers of 'Beams N' Barham'.

I'm not worried about Jack at all. Early days, guys. Early days. He's shown enough promise, we just need to persist.

I really enjoy watching him play, he's a great mark and I never realised he was so young, looks older. This got me curious though, what was unusual about his upbringing?

He has basically had the same upbringing as a female egyptian gypsey; i.e. he was brought up in a family full of females, and had mostly female friends at school.

It's his first full season of AFL football, playing in one of the most demanding positions on the field. There is no hiding at full forward. I'm not worried at all. His form is a concern but it was almost inevitable that he'd have a form slump at some stage. It seemed to coincide with his injury and oppo teams paying him more respect. The biggest problem really is he seems to have lost his confidence in the same period. When he gets his confidence in his kicking back he'll be fine. He is still creating chances for himself.

Not to concerned at all. He's only 21.He is getting slot more attention now.

I'd expect him to be very good next year. Probably looking at a 60 goal season.

didn't he get into a bit of a dust up with buddy franklin awhile back, it could have been scurrilous rumour but was it about jack saying he'd be better than franklin? could just be making it up, but thought i heard that on SEN or something...

...he is travelling pretty well though, i know as a top four team it's not great to have your CHF and FF not kicking bags, but it also makes me salivate over the possible future of a mature cloke/anthony forward line considering we are travelling so well with these guys in form slums!
