John Anthony - I'm worried.

Not hitting scoreboard or creating enough spillages though.

Kickless against the doggies.

5 goals only in last 5 matches.

Gave 4 free kicks away against Brisbane.

A worry when cloke also struggling to kicks goals.

Happy dawes gets another opportunity this week to lend a helping hand ...
we average 97 points a match 5th best in the league. Take out the saints and carlton matches that gets significantly better

We have a percentage of 117.73%, clear fourth best

Anthony is in his first full AFL season, he is clearly now doing a different role

Basically understudy these posts are pure tripe, and ending them like this ... is annoying. Stop pretending you know whats right for everything collingwood, your stating to just be a plain trolling annoying little sod

Yes thats why I've wanted Dawes in all along to provide support and relief ...
and when the conditions have allowed it dawes has played

and whats this mean ...??? what

thanks for the link snag....

arrogant, brash? reminds me of a few traits a superstar wearing number 5 used to have.... maybe one of nathan buckleys first jobs will be mentoring jack and getting him to get the best out himself...

im a huge fan of JA.. he shouldnt be ostracised by people because he is a straight talker...

Great article - nothing there of concern!

I like that Jack is a bit weird. Rob Murphy was always considered a bit weird and out of place among the WBs, but he has made a comfortable space for himself as he got older.

Jack is just kid. Kids have lapses in form. He will come good. I'm kind of hoping he matures into a freaky enigmatic big forward though.

Exactly. And I love Robert Murphy. He's a wee dote.:p

is that why his cranium seems to jut out in front so it contain his massive brain? if he was so smart why doesnt he just go back and kick for goal when he is marked inside 50. it takes all types to make a team and jack is just one out of the box. :D

He just sees more possibilities than the rest of us; and even the brightest can err. But he's probably done most of his erring for this season.

Yeah, we've been bed-buddies for a while, but the relationship was getting stale, so I asked Jack to spice it up. Thus the changes.

Initially, we were going to try get Beams or Barham in for a menage-a-trois, but neither wanted to do it without the other, and our bed would never have fit all four of us.

:thumbsu: Well played.

He's obviously got enough drive to be a good AFL player for a long time. At points he definitely plays selfishly, but it's the same approach as this that leads to him playing well. He'll begin to deal with form slumps as he mature and gets more experienced.

You'd assume he'd have a thick skin, and while I love people speaking their mind to the media, some of the quotes in that article would have gotten a lot of laughs from other guys at the club. However, as others have said it doesn't matter how he fits in socially - as long as everybody has the same goal then we're fine.

He's certainly an interesting study, and I think a lot of supporters have come to expect too much too consistenly of him too early.

I also predict him to be the first AFL player to be openly homosexual while still playing. The influence of J.A. will reverberate throughout the league both on and off field for years to come.

I would genuinely love for this to happen. I can see him as a gay icon.

What is it about him that sets off your Gaydar?

Many people confuse arrogance with confidence. To be a FF you need confidence in spades. I'm sure JA has it. All good FFs' as has been mentioned have the same cocky swagger. I want JA 5to be more confident. If he marks anything inside 50, just take a shot......

Have a look at Ben Reid. Looks a very talented player but just lacks confidence in himself. Once he gets that confidence in his game that he belongs, we'll see the best of him.....

.....

I first started thinking about it after he got hurt in the ribs against Syndey ... the way he hunched over and cocked his arse up in the air ... I don't know.

There is of course the infamous headbutting of the crotch incident, as well as his own admission he was far more comfortable in the company of females when younger and complaing that he didn't have any boyfriends.

It'd actually be pretty cool if it happened, and he seems like the kinda guy who'd be willing to take it on.

It's a fair observation, he has been struggling of late, even if the umpire did crucify him in my eyes on the weekend.

His last 6 weeks or so have been poor by his standard, and hence the recent inclusion of Dawes to sure up the forward line a bit.

The problem with Jack is, as he has stated himself, was that he had an unusual upbringing that has made his personality a little bit different to others, and this may be slowing his development as a player.

He is still young though, and if I'm not wrong, about the same age as Tom Hawkins who is also struggling at the moment.

Worth persisting with, he will almost certainly win our goal kicking this year, but we do have the likes of Rocca and Fraser looking as if they are about to return, so forward line spots in the finals may be handed out on form.

What was so unusual about it?

Not hitting scoreboard or creating enough spillages though.

Absolute nonsense he hasn't been creating enough spillages. During his form slump this is an aspect of his game which has stayed intact. Some of his taps and knock ons in contested situations have been top notch. You are right in saying he hasn't really troubled the score sheet, it seems a confidence thing, he is still getting in good positions. He just isn't finishing them.

Kickless against the doggies.

With nine handballs. This was the week after Sydney IIRC when he had that bad corky. Seems a legitimate reason.

5 goals only in last 5 matches.

Read first point.

Gave 4 free kicks away against Brisbane.

Some of which were stupid, and some harsh interpretations (thats being kind). Not really a big issue. It hasn't been a feature of his game or become a habit yet.

It is a worry but is really up to him to get his confidence back. He'll be alright when this happens. I tend think we are too top heavy with Dawes but I see the reasoning behind his inclusion. I just wish Cloke would be played closer to goal instead.

Nothing to worry about Jack at all. 62 goals in his first 29 games of AFL football, fantastic return to date so early in his development. I think 29 games is the key here. I think some people have unrealistic expectations on some of our young players. The last player to kick 50 goals with such few games in their career was Matthew Lloyd. Jack is coming along fine and the club is more than pleased to be squeezing over 2 goals a game from Jack at this early stage in his career. Sure he has hit a bit of a rocky patch but maintain the faith that this guy is here for the long haul. He could slot into any AFL side right at the moment without a doubt. Keep up the good early development Jack!

Just on Jack...

He is just having a form slump, although showed some good signs against Brisbane as did Medhurst.

Could easily see him kicking a bag against Adelaide now that Bock is out.

He is immature imo, and therefore has alot of scope for maturity, and with that, he will become more consistent, smarter and damaging.

When he gets to more contests, and starts reading the play better, which he will, I believe he will kcik 80 goals plus in a season.

.

Totally agree on this, although i am expecting Jack to be a consistent 50-70 goals a year man from next year onwards. He has a huge future in front of him from the early evidence of his first 29 games thus far. In this day and age, forwards not only have to beat their man, they have to take on defensive structures and he is making a good fist of it so far.

A quick look at the goalkicking table will show you that Jack is in equal 11th on the table and Kurt Tippett from Adelaide has only 3 more goals than Jack and he is being hailed as Adelaide's forward saviour. A bit of a reality check is needed with some critics.

Absolute nonsense, he does not know how to use his body and avoid giving free kicks away. Does it frequently, sick of bloody collingwood people excusing the weaknesses of our players and blaming umpires, massive concern ...

I hope you guys are just ASSuming that JA is gay? I feel a little wierd about having a gay guy on the team lol.
But seriously?... Please tell me it's a joke. NOW.
