Not to mention earning potential. :(

Not sure what you mean here - he would be a one of the best clubs at the moment to get a bigger than normal (for his age and experience) share of the salary cap.

With Broges, Chad and Mots likely all gone, the cap increase and the 100% payment, we surely have a lot of slack to dish out.

My understanding is that one of the conditions of receiving financial support from the AFL, what ever they are calling it currently, is that we are limited to spending the minimum of the salary cap range as set out in the AFLPA CBA. So less money to spend than most of the Melbourne clubs and far less than Gold Coast and GWS.

The new AFLPA CBA specifies all clubs to spend 100% of the cap - this has been conceded by the AFL already - so we are on an even playing field now, not counting the start-ups. I have also read that in any event, AD wants us to up the player payments $ to 100% - the extra money is specifically for footy and not admin or debt reduction.

We also don't have the elite A-graders of a lot of other clubs and theoreticlly, that is another advantage in player payments.

Thanks, I didn't realise that.

This is an advantage to a player like Butcher but it is a disadvantage to the club as a whole. It means that we are forced to pay players that are not even up to AFL standard and could barely give a toss during a game the same amount that teams like Collingwood, Geelong and Hawthorn pay their players.

I think with the top teams though that they have there 5-10 players that get paid 450k plus and the rest of the squad realise that the guns wil get paid more and accept less because the are close to a flag

Port have the problem of paying your average players more. What makes them like port Adelaide as they get paid more here than they would any other team

This also makes these average contracted players very difficult or expensive to trade. Either another club has to agree to pay the same amount, which is unlikely, or we have to pay the difference.

I knew there was a reason I had a problem with the 100% salary cap. This is it.

It makes it very, very difficult to trade contracted players when you have zero leeway for payment amounts. I suppose it means leaving contracts till the end of the year or a bunch of clauses allowing you to add payment later?

If the contracts are front ended it actually works the complete opposite. It's nowhere near as simplistic as you make it out to be.

I disagree. We won't spend more on our list cloggers than we have to because they have no currency and will not be wanted by another club. It does mean we can spend more on our quality players and potentially bring in a quality outsider.

Think just the norm,

'Buuuuuuuuuutch' when he gets it. Simple as that.

That Walking in a Wazza Wonderland was one of the worst things I have ever heard.

I didn't mind it

But i want something more witty and catchy than simply Buuuuuutch, i want something that 30k can chant at AO

Booooooooooooooooootch perhaps? Or is that what TSW meant?

I don't really like the chants that sound like booing of course, I think its a little ominous rather than exciting. But if it gets the boy going, I'd be happy with anything :D

Thats my main concern with "Buuuutch" chant and had a chant of Butcher in my bay at one time (after his 5th?) though was sick
