Can't really blame the club for not having something for him to consider as yet, only debuted last week.

Of course you can. H'es our first pick, and top raed KPP in his draft, drafted to fill a need .... one year of rehab, and one year of developmnet, theres no way we wouldnt have kept him on the list.

Our contract work is ****ed.

Any club with their shit together would have had preliminary deals on the table months ago with players that were clearly going to be required next year and Butcher being one of them, in fact we'd probably have locked him in by now and much cheaper than he's going to be. Also any club with their shit together when you have Jackson Trengove asking for an extension last year you'd have got something done, even an agreement to terms about a new contract for next year if the money wasn't available this year.

I'm just amazed we can't throw these guys enough money to keep them here. Who is taking up all our salary cap?

My guess would be Motlop, Kornes, Salopek and Brogan would have some heavily back-ended contracts.

Dom, Boak and Gray would be paid well for their ages/experience as well.

Andrew Moore is close to signing.

Think Butcher will stay to be honest.

Is always referred to as #thefuture by other players.

?? He is the one I'm worried about most, played out if position with us then gets dumped to the norf seconds. Wouldn't be surprised if he's not happy.

I too am optimistic about our players signing. If reports are true we have a heap of salary cap space which we HAVE to fill, and a further gap to fill via the departure of some of our more highly paid senior players, Motlop, Brogan, Cornes etc.

The group of young players itself seems reasonably close, and there is a precedent already set by Gray and Boak to show faith in the group and turn down lucrative interstate offers to resign with the club.

Money + Young Promising Group = Enough to get these guys over the line. Here's hoping, anyway.

Butcher sounds like he will stay, but really, he should've been signed on ages ago for at least 1 more year. Rohde has allowed the 'end of year' shenanigans to start a year earlier with Butch.

The good thing is he's a country lad, so he's adapted to Adelaide well. I think he'll definitely stay - homesickness wouldn't be a factor, the only thing that would sway his decision is how poor our club is at the moment.

I also think he's genuinely appreciative to the club and to the fact that we've given him a chance to play AFL football.

i ****ing hate this bullshit

Every year without fail. Annoys the hell out of me to! I think Boak signing last year will help Trengove and Butcher sign. Boak is a hell of a lot more important and really is our future captain.

But then again the pessimistic side of me says at the end of next year we will be nervous about Boak resigning.

the advantage we have over the trade period will be our position in the preseason draft, so clubs will be forced to offer suitable conpensation if some of our required players want to leave.

Butcher Focused on Footy
"At the moment, I've only played one AFL game so my contract hasn't been something I've really thought about," Butcher said.

"I'm a pretty simple guy. Footy is what I love doing and that's what I've been concentrating on. My main focus has been getting over my injuries and getting out there. It was a proud moment to get out there and play my first game.

"Now, I'm focused on finishing off the year in the last three games, hopefully staying in the team and having a positive impact.

"At the end of the season, I'm sure I'll sit down with my family, my manager and the club and work something out."
"The club has been fantastic. I've got a great friendship group with the players here, and have also met a lot of people outside of football that have been fantastic to me and helped me out a lot," Butcher said.

"Adelaide is like a big country town. I come from the bush and Maffra is not the biggest place. I've settled in Adelaide really well.

And thats how we should bloody well act. We aren't big enough to be a big city we are a small city/big country town.

Players have the option of nominating for the national draft or preseason draft if they want.

I'm pretty confident he will stay. From that video it seems hes happy here and really that's what matters. Sign him up on a multi year deal now. He's gonna be worth it.
