Don't mind this. He seems good at relationships and people management, plus you don't remain competitive (if not in GFs) without having high standards.

Will need to take a step back from gameday roles for a while you'd think, to allow Cox some breathing room.

Most interesting part coming out of that Members email/the accompanying article:

“John advised us some 18 months ago that he felt within himself that his time as senior coach would likely end at the completion of either season 2024 or 2025. The process that we have followed after John advising us of his longer-term intentions reflects our preferred approach of managed and seamless succession. "

It puts into context a lot of subsequent events (like Cox staying) into obvious context.

The difference is that Adam Kingsley was a fresh voice bringing ideas from Richmond. His game plan is very Hardwick like with adjustments for his personnel.
Cox has been at Sydney for years. He has learnt most of his coaching from Longmire. He isn’t a fresh voice. He maybe the best but how do you know unless you talk to others and hear their philosophies and approaches to the game?
Wrong, he learned from Simpson & Woosher first. Then Longmire.

Executive director- Club performance (except days that don't define us) 😀
Not sure about this but hey if it brings fresh air into the playing group without too much angst in the short term - ok Harley but I hope u are on top of this.
It sounds like it is primarily about off the field performance. Don't have any issues with that.

You're right. I didn't think of the loss of Daniher. He is a loss as I don't rate Hipwood at all, especially now with Daniher gone.
I'm thinking more of who gets added to their GF team. 4 ACL injured players returning plus 2 excellent additions via the draft.
No doubt how strong their list is. They have a lot of quality to come back in, and it'll take an enormous effort from anyone to knock them off next year.

Hopefully Cox does a better job with the team than he did with our midfield.

As I read the role it's about researching best practice in various areas and presenting it to the football department and facilities management. Very light contact with the coaches.

I hope cox doesn’t have favourites etc

I hope he is a hard prick

Drop blokes if warents it

Play blokes who deserve it
Fresh voice and ideas normally lends to a change in perspective on players. Throw in a different game plan and there should be change. Won’t be massive at the start as trade period has passed. He has to work with the list he has.

Marketing Team Member 1: And so John, with the additional highlights reels, seltzer campaign and the new Official Club Partner for Himalayan Rock Salt Lamps, we think we're on track to beat our reach conversion KPIs for Q3.

Marketing Team Member 2: Which we all know is the most important quarter hey John? John?

Horse: Sorry, used to being called Horse. Uh... what are our contested numbers again?

Member 1: Uh... do you just want to go watch the lads train again Jo... Horse? I can clear off the rest of the calendar this morning.

[Horse's chair swivels rapidly]

Member 1: Now on to next year's training tops, I'm thinking Brown & Gold!

I'm somewhat relieved. It allows a lot of people to move on from the pain of the grand final losses.
In some ways, the decision to walk now is a reflection of Horse as a person - for effectively he becomes the sole 'fall guy' for the failure of 2024, and it will take some of the focus off the playing group, at least to begin with, and gives Cox a chance to make significant changes if he wishes to do so.

Of course he had already decided the final trip to the coaching knackery was near - but this step will ease that process, and provide a bit of a pressure release prior to season 2025.

Sounds to me like something they have created to get around the soft cap. Happy to bet Horse won't be at the club this time next year.
