They have to pay his contract. May as well get some value and yes, get it out of the soft cap.
Ah well - so be it if that is the case. No doubt its a role created to find a fit for him, and it may well be driven by the soft cap element. But equally - its a role that he is probably very well suited to.

All said and done think it’s a great move for everyone team especially ..
New spin on things few new ideas ,fresh game style ..might even flip a few magnets who knows but I’m finally excited for next year immediate optimism which to be fare was very much lacking .

I'm concerned there won't be the significant cultural change we need.
We need professional training standards obviously but the internal player culture needs to be grass roots local footy. Not trying to be a bank.

Despite the heartbreaking grand final losses it's important to recognise this man presided over the most successful period of our clubs 150 year history. Maybe one day some who judged him harshly will look back and realise we had it pretty good with him at the helm.

Comments in thread have already explained that. Players weren't back and he probably wanted to tell them himself. No doubt he made his decision over the break and the upper decks knew about it.
