That leaderboard says it all doesn't it. After Shuey, Gaff & Priddis - not a midfielder among em; the next layer of mids are completely AWOL.

We're going nowhere unless Yeo, Redden, Jetta, Nelson, Duggan and co can take a massive step up.

Yep we all saw that tier struggle immensely in 2016.

Sheed gets a pardon, the others not so much.

Was please with the tones last night, the players actually looked hurt.

Its weird that they all sound more pissed off this year than they did this time last year after a GF loss.

I know. I said preseason the only think that will stand in our way this year will be complacency and injuries, and unfortunately that's exactly what happened.

With Nic Nat down injuries will already play a massive part in 2017, but if the Club Champion night is any indication, we won't have to worry about complacency anymore. Like Simpson says, talk's cheap, but that's all we have at the moment and the right words have been said. My favourite part was still when Simpson was talking about Rawlings' new role in list management and regarding trade week and the draft he said "don't bugger it up" and everyone laughed and Simpson shot back with "I'm not joking". Boom. :thumbsu:

With all things considered we had a sensational run with injuries this year.

These are the awards that stats don't matter in. For those still bagging Lecras obviously he was given certain roles which we had little knowledge of and that's why the coaches awarded him votes.
It's very different club B & F to Brownlow type awards which just basically follow stats.
I find Cripps in the top 10 more staggering than Lecras.

Oh never got into the team for an extneded period so agreeed.

More the Masten, Hutchings, Yeo, even Duggan.

Poor season had by those supporting our core.

He's been a whipping boy for a while now, but surely it's almost time the club asked themselves what does Masten offer.

He's an injury-free midfielder in his prime and he can't crack the top 10 - Jamie ****ing Cripps is ahead of him FFS.

Are we going to give him a free pass to play out one of the most mediocre 200 game careers in history? (He's only got two seasons to reach that milestone by the way).

He 'does his job' but it's not really helping

Bloody good post.

"We're on a mission. We're a driven group and we'll stand by each other until we win that premiership"

This might be a bit unpopular but that line is better than and more inspiring / believable /confidence building than anything I've ever heard come out of Bungas mouth.
I dont think you are upsetting too many people with that observation.

Bloody good post.
Fun facts (i'm procrastinating - work can GAGF):

  • In the past 90 matches, Masten has taken one contested mark. (For comparison, in the same period, Gaff has taken 10 and even Jetta has taken 5)
  • In the past 50 matches, Masten has kicked 6 goals and 16 behinds. Every time he kicks a goal we wait another 8 rounds for him to kick another one.
  • In season 2016, Masten averaged 1.8 tackles per match.
  • In almost 40% of matches played in 2016 he applied either no tackles or just one. (he's not alone in this regard but it exacerbates the fact that blokes like Gaff and Jetta don't tackle much either.)
It's easy to cherry pick. But if he's playing an unaccountable role, hence the lack of contested marking and defensive pressure, he should definitely be kicking more goals.

I like Masto but those are some damning stats

The top 10 probably isn't that surprising now thinking about our year. Most players missed games at some point. Had Naitanui not been injured he was gunning for a top 5 spot. Lycett could have polled well. Butler was consistent when he played. I agree that it really looks bad for Masten to not crack the top 10 in this circumstance. I was going to say Wellingham too but I think he missed some games early.

Wash up from last night and a few impressions:

  1. Music was shit
  2. Thursday night? Really Eagles. It was a great night, but not an epic one where all the WAGS were getting pissed and carrying their shoes
  3. It is a very tight knit group. You could see them all talking together, having a laugh and generally getting along
  4. There were several 2006 players there - Lynch, Cox (of course), Embley, Wirra and a few others and they are SUPER TIGHT. Stood and chatted the whole night.
  5. Wirra is short!
  6. They are hurting about 2016. From the board, to Nizzy, to the executive and the playing group. They are hungry for success. Hopefully this hunger turns into success on field
  7. I reckon that they think they are in the window and are really close to a premiership
  8. JJK is awesome
  9. Shuey should be captain
  10. Top 5 - really?
  11. Cransberg is a loss to the organisation
  12. Ginners & X seem to be a heap of fun and the interview they did was pretty good
  13. Boobs, boobs everywhere
  14. But seriously, eat something - some of the WAGS were so skinny they would blow away in a stiff breeze
Good night overall and Shuey was a worthy winner

Shuey from Kennedy is the right decision for our top 2 - IMO those two a standout above everyone else.

A little surprised by how low Gov was - but you miss games, you miss votes. I like the Geelong voting system where they wipe your worst 4 games. It allows blokes who miss one or two games to still win.

Couldn't agree more with your first post. Your second posts just confirms it and shows why you get a POTY nominations, because I can't be arsed looking for the stats to back anything I think of.

For balance, would be interesting to see his stats on scoring chain involvements. Although, to me, even if he does have a better than average showing in this stat, it doesn't necessarily give him a reprieve from the blowtorch. He needs to be better and more influential than he has been. Although after a 150+ games of fairly mediocre output, who can see that happening? Ginners may have been taking the piss, but he wasn't far off in his assessment of him being a mental midget in front of goals. Just doesn't have it, and for someone who has spent so much time in that HFF/Mid role that is the most damning stat of the lot. That and his holding the ball stat.

Oh and on ya Boots! Was certain it was going to be a win for him... was surprised it was as close tbh.

And f*** the live stream, what a stupid piece of buffering shit that was! I got jack of it at 12.30am, at least it wasn't just me.
