It's called using common sense something you seem to be lacking in.

I'm a mod. You should actually read the OP before responding.
This is about the AFL as a whole, not just Brown hitting Jamison.

I don't have any issue at all with players naming and shaming those who go down to easily. It's irrelevant that it was a Carlton player that was pointed out this time. It also back up Brown's point to an extent that more than ever players are getting rewarded for going down like Jameson did. There needs to be some kind of deterrent and atm going public like Brown did is the only solution for victims of diving. Perhaps if the AFL were more committed to stopping divers they wouldn't have to do this.

I'm sure you would have stayed vertical if you received a similar unexpected hit on the chin....Brown is no victim here. He might see red mist at the sight of the Carlton jumper. I recall him bravely wacking tiny Darren Hulme in 2004 and copping 2 weeks.

2 weeks for that hit is a bit over the top, i think most people would be fine if he got 1 week for it. Shouldn't of challenged (dumb system)

He said what we have all been thinking for years. Unfortunately now the Office of Thoughtcrimes over at AFL HQ will probably punish him with a big fine for daring to speak openly and honestly.

I agreed with brownie that the game is getting soft and that the bump is dead. But hes wrong about everything else. That wasnt 'biff' that was a cheap behind the ball at Jamo and hes having a sook about it. So let me get this straight..

hes pretty much accusing jamison of being weak...
Yet he is the one that is running his mouth on Channel 9 about it, not even confronting Jamison about the incident, not even swallowing his pride and apologizing to him, he just wants to whinge about it. Some tough man he is... I hope he gets fined for his words. That is just a dog act by Brownie.

Lost some respect for Johnathan Brown tonight

The issue is players like Brown, Kelly, Ziebell play the game as if its 1999. Its not. And they will hurt their teams until they change.

Unfortunately as is so clearly obvious to us, the modern game is SOFT. Players have to learn to live with it and so do we. For a long time yet. You see the unfortunate thing out of all of this, is that the rules and changes will affect the future stars that we will watch in the decades to come. The new breed of AFL footballer will develop based on the current modern game. Major worry.

For those that play competitive football on any weekend, it is alarming how many blokes when taking possession of the footy in a contest, look for head high contact. Instinctively. This is a major area for concern. But who is to blame? The men they watch every weekend on the TV or the dinosaurs who call the shots behind the scenes.

We love a bump or a tough tackle as much as we did 30 years ago. But it is not viable for our teams to play like that, week in week out.
You cant touch the head, you cant touch the legs, you cant touch the back and you cant touch the shoulders.
If all you can aim for is the midriff and arms of an opponent, what are the bloody chances any tackle wont be high let alone a bump will be executed perfectly?

I have been under the viewpoint that any contact is fair game and that anything serious injury to a player should have an independent AFL supplied doctor or physio monitor that players progress and then advises the tribunal of any possible sanctions based on the victims sufferance ie he has a broken cheekbone, ac joint, concussion etc. That way clubs cannot manipulate the system. This bullshit about possible cause to injury is a load of crap which is what Kelly got weeks for.

2013 has shown us you are not allowed to hurt your opponent physically as wanted by the league. Only on the scoreboard. Bruise free footy is here to stay.

A major are for concern is the Umpires now LOOKING for the free rather than paying the obvious ones. Going out of their war to be noticeable and having an impact is the biggest fault the men is white possess. They are not stars. They are not celebrities. We shouldnt have to know their names or what games they will umpire. Give them a number and thats it. We go to watch the players not them.

Browns hit on Jamison was stupid but it was not a king hit. FFS these are grown men we are talking about here. I saw Nat Myles front up to four right arm hooks and be fine and thats because rugby is all about the hits. Its in their blood. What our games genetics state now is if you get hit like that you are TAUGHT to now try to win the free for high contact. Its what Thomas does and Thompson does at my club BECAUSE the TEAM is better off.
Are they not helping the side by winning the free?
The rules put in place by the AFL are making the game what it is. Ducking, diving, faking, simulation.
So many missed tackles and soft efforts these days because there are times a hip and ****ing shoulder WOULD have been so much more effective then trying to stop an opponent with a tackle.

Next time a player gets wrong footed when attempting to tackles, I wonder how a bump may have helped.

Footy is soft and its because the AFL wants to appeal as a fast, quick, highly skillful and high scoring product with minimal injuries.

36 blokes running in any direction in any manner you are going to get collisions. Its what makes our game so unique. You now cant put your legs in certain areas or jump for certain contests. Players being rubbed out for potential to cause injury and being head hunted by a group of puppets every monday for any possible case is a blight on the other near on 120 years of footy that us and past generations have watched.

you people are missing the point , it isnt about brown its abut the decline in the game how its gone from a physical tough tackling game to a glorified netball game , no take that back netballers are tougher !
maybe touch footballers is closer
the AFL under box head have done all they can to weaken the brand

It's not hard to work that out yet some carlton posters are making it about a personal attack on their player. If a few players get called divers but as a result more players talk about this in the media and put pressure on the AFL for some change in the game then who cares. Much bigger issues here.

It's not hard to work out that Brown said this in the wake of him being suspended for something he thinks Jamison should have got up and continued on over. He actually indicated this in the same soapbox speech. It's then not hard to work out that some in this thread have used it as an opportunity to attack Jamison and link that to Murphy and Carlton.

What would you have Carlton supporters do? Some have said he has a point but that point is diluted by virtue of his complaining about Jamison and his own suspension. He undid any point he made by making it about himself.

..Browney's having a sook cos he copped a week, stupidly challenged it and had it extended to 2 weeks.. ..and in the origin game [was it wallan/] threw some nifty punches to the head and only got 1 week.. ..and so he compares afl to league origin and cries we're going soft.. ..what a knobhead.. ..he threw a clumsy arm around and copped Jamo across the jaw.. ..it was off the ball, and he was out of the contest.. ..he's just a frustrated playing nearing the end, if he played smarter he could get more out of himself but his belligerance will end his career before his body does..

The amount of force being determined by the injury/reaction of the player is a joke. Hit a guy with 'X' force on the jaw and he might end up with a sore jaw for a couple of days. Hit a bloke with the same amount of force on the nose and you might draw blood and/or break it.

I'll bet I could guess which one gets done for more weeks.

Has anyone ever met a Carlton supporter who is level headed and fair minded when talking about anything to do with Carlton? Ever?

Brown is right. I've watched that "hit" on Jamison several times and there is absolutely nothing in it. High contact. Free Kick. That's it. To even be reported for that is ridiculous let alone get 2 weeks.

Whilst the comparison to the boofhead League stuff where 2 big punches to the face are only given 1 week is somewhat going too far the other way, anybody with any sense of perspective, which is obviously not Carlton supporters in relation to anything to do with Carlton, knows the gist of what Brown is saying is to be true.

Oh well you said it so it must be true. Nothing in it so therefore Jamison is a sook and a diver. Not sure why we would have any problem with that accusation, considering none of you heroes were on the other end.

As far as the grading of the incident, I don't care whether it was rubbed out or not. The question is what was the intent, and was the impact low or above?

In your efforts to decry the game as becoming too soft (and I agree to an extent), you sell another team's player down the river as a diver. All of you would be defending that player under the same circumstance, so get off your anti-Carlton supporter soapbox, or do we start doing a tit for tat thing on every other club that defends unfounded accusations against its players? You up for that champ, or you just another opportunist who gets his cheap shots in when others share the same opinion?
