I think you're both misunderstanding his point. He's not saying that Daniher is crap because he hasn't shown his talents yet. Only that he shouldn't be talked up because there's barely any evidence to prove he'll be as good as you guys say.

Well if you can't talk up unproven players on this site then you may as well shut the bloody thing down.

He will never be as good as Liam Jones, 56 goals from 56 games what a mighty effort.

Jones has also beaten guys like Alex Rance and Tom Lonergan. Who actually plays KPD for Gold Coast?

But seeing as you keep bringing up Dogs players I think a good comparison for Daniher would be Tom Campbell - another forward/ruck. Has only played eight more games than Daniher all up and in one more game than Daniher in 2013 he tripled his goal tally and took nearly double the contested marks.

No because these guys didn't kick goals in their first games so he's going to be as good as them. Don't even question it.

Did you watch the game? Daniher was impressive imo.

No I was at work last night. From all reports he impressed but it doesn't seem to correlate on the stats sheet. Though it wouldn't be pre-season without over the top hype of a young talents performance. (See my sig for example :p)

No. Daniher has the potential but he's done nothing at AFL level. At least we've seen a bit from Jones to persist with. We'll wait until Daniher is the #1 forward getting double teamed all the time.

I don't know why you keep up bringing Dogs players though, I never said Daniher was crap, just that you are overrating him. Typical bigfooty though, someone doesn't rate your player so you need to bring up their team. Just make sure you ignore the Campbell comparison because it doesn't suit your argument (despite campbell/Daniher being much more similar players than Daniher/Jones).

Campbell is also 3 years older and is more mature for AFL football

I think Daniher has the potential to be the best out of the group, with his combination of height, agility, speed and natural instincts of when and where to lead he's going to be very hard to stop when his body fills out. He reminds me of a young Paul Salmon prior to his knee blowing up.

Rory Thompson, who went very well last year.

But he didn't play the other night against Essendon. Daniher played on May when he kicked his goals, our third choice KPD at 190cm. So it was no real surprise. When Warnock was shifted onto Daniher after half time he was very quiet.

All the damage was done when Daniher was on May and receiving the ball without much midfield pressure from the deliveries.

Nothing against Daniher. He moved really well to collect ground balls. But when we tightened up the midfield defense and put Warnock onto him (certainly not a star, but taller than May), he was barely seen.

Again, nothing against Joe. Still a very young player who will work through those challenges as he matures.

The game in 2013 where he had 17 poss, 3 goals, 1 behind and a goal assist, 5 contested marks. He really took Day to the cleaners that night.

Those first quarter goals and marks came from when he was on McKenzie, not Day. McKenzie isn't really KPD material given his lack of height and slight frame. I don't doubt that he did some damage on Day when he was rotated onto Joe, but this was only Day's second or third game in his career playing as a defender. Not really a suitable match-up.

Danniher's issues have always been goal kicking.

He makes a young Cloke and Franklin look like dead-eye dicks.

How many goals did Campbell kick in his first year?

Essendon supporters hyping up a high-draft pick dubbed (by neutral draft experts) one of the best forwards to come through the TAC Cup ranks. Shock horror. Surely other supporters don't overrate and hype up their young high draft picks as well, do they?

That's a bit harsh on Daniher. You make it sound like he only kicked goals from good delivery and because he was taller than his direct opponent. When in reality he didn't receive any lace out passes and he beat May to ground balls on more than one occasion.

Besides for me what was so impressive about Daniher is that he is already attacking the ball in the air with no regard for anyone else which is a trait many key forwards take years to develop in the AFL.

Didn't stick the grab, but the way he stood on Tom Nicholls shoulders... hnggggg.

Another example ManOfClay Jono Brown kicked 0 goals in his first 5 games. Travis Cloke kicked 5 goals in his first 5 games. Should I go on?
Gary Ablett Senior kicked 6 goals in his first 5 games. Tony Lockett kicked 7 goals in his first 5 games. Jason Dunstall kicked 6 goals in his first 5 games. Wayne Carey kicked 0 goals in his first 5 games.

Therefore Daniher is better than Wayne Carey? What in hell is your point?

My point is that he's a young key forward that'll take time to develop, the signs he's showing are positive and champion Key Forwards have had similarly poor starts as him.
No. Campbell's body is much more suited to playing forward and ruck, and he can kick straight.
Wow. Just wow.
