Yeah That was a poor trade in hindsight, but MM has certainly shown a lot more at AFL level than Clark whom I actually think is a bit soft actually.

He has actually played some decent footy for Carlton believe it or not, guess his fitness levels and amount of coin we are paying him is a bone of contention for many Blues fans, but he certainly isn't an outright bust, which I think is what Jordan Clark is looking like at this stage.
Clark has played 29 games in 3 years since he was drafted in 2018 at Pick 15...on minimal wages. McGovern has played 33 games in 3 years, on roughly 700K a year for your Pick 13. He's also still contracted for another 2 years and has done literally nothing since he arrived. At least Clark has upside and is still just a kid. Freo seem to think so, given they've reportedly offered him 4 years. How many clubs are coming for 'ol Mitchy?

If Clark was as good as you say, how come you have not been playing him more in the seniors ?
On exposed from at AFL level, I think it's damn impertinent Geelong are demanding more than pick 27 from Freo (granted he is a former top 15 pick who is still contracted)
Just my opinion about Clark as a footballer, wasn't meant as a dig at Geelong Footy Club as a whole, even if I think your drafting of young players in recent years has been far more miss than hit.

I agree with you to a certain extent. However, just because Geelong doesn't play him doesn't mean they don't rate him. Plenty of clubs have young players they aren't playing for various reasons. Geelong clearly want to keep him, they see him as a great player for thme in the future. I think them asking for higher is because he is still in contract; it is generally how they operate. Much like Tim kelly, if they don't get a deal that they want they will just keep him, they are merely pointing out what it would take to pry him loose.
I don't think it is a bad thing to hold players to their contract, and to demand more from a club to break said contract.

I'm not telling you to accept a token 4th round pick and enjoy it, I simply asked on what metric his value starts at pick 27.
Zero understanding about the player or the circumstances would be refusing to acknowledge that you gave a two year contract to Isaac Smith who plays the same position. Clark has not been a priority for the Cats for two years. It would take a large change in strategy for him to suddenly to be prioritised in 2022. He's really not some hard luck next man in story.

Reports came out today that Geelong would be chasing something in between 8 & 27. Not sure if they'll get that but that sounds like the starting point. So as it stands, they want us to find a pick we don't currently have.
Freo are going ask for more than pick 6 for Cerra from Carlton given he was taken at Pick 5, and has had 76 games invested into him and looks like its easy to see his quality and trajectory. So we will likely be asking for the pick they get from the Eagles for Peterevski Seton on top of pick 6. This will likely go in part at least, to Geelong for Clark.
Clarks worth is difficult to nail, IMO. Do you take the hype perspective of perceived worth without any significant runs on the board, or do you take the unsuccessful fringe player persepctive? Clearly he has been sidelined over more experience players at Geelong (repeatedly) so he's either a fringe player who can't break in to best 22, or he's a gun in waiting who Geelong have gambled losing to Freo for their flag tilt. Perhaps he's both.
I think he's going to be purple soon, but I don't think this is quite a done deal yet. Scarlet leaving and more assurances might keep him at the Cattery, but I doubt it. I'd be keen to get him if we don't pay too much. Hopefullly thats how Freo see it too.
Whatever happens, hope the player gets what he wants and both clubs can be as happy as possible. I'll be curious to see how this pans out.

At a minimum Freo would want pick 6 and Clark for Cerra and pick 27. Even then not all Freo supporters would be happy.

I wonder how many negotiations end up being decided with a coin toss? Those situations where two clubs have been negotiating for days, have got close, but no cigar, appears to end in stalemate with both clubs frustrated while realising the importance of 'getting a deal done' but with both clubs sitting defiantly with their arms folded, both going 'nup'? I wonder if they ever decide the final 'yes' or 'no' on a game of rock, paper scissors, just to get it done? Let fate decide on the last hurdle?

Clark is not staying at Geelong without signing a new deal I'd have thought. You don't force a player to stay with one year left and four on the table and just leave it at that unless there is a reasonable prospect of extracting value at the end.
They're also asking the player to be happy with being one serious injury away from delistment rather than having a decent safety net in place. E.g. Kelly. If he'd done his knee round 23 2019 WC still would have made the trade (much reduced) as he had shown enough to make it worth the risk. Clark, has shown much less. If he has a moderate year next year then snaps an achillies, he's done.
I think unless Geelong is prepared to offer Clark something, then all the noise we're hearing is pure posturing.

Honestly don't believe Pick 27 needs to be involved. Pick 6 and Clark seems fair on its own for Cerra.
I suggest Carlton give up their Pick 25 to us. Maybe later pick swaps from us to Carlton to balance it out a bit.
FREO: 6 and Clark for Cerra
CARLTON: Cerra and (maybe) Geelong steak knives for 6 and 25
CATS: Pick 25 for Clark and (maybe) steak knives to Carlton.

If Freo really has a 4 year deal on the table then yeah I think either Geelong want to keep him and he agrees to stay on an extended deal or he goes.
But it also doesn't make much sense for Freo to offer 4 years to a contracted player and then quibble over pretty minor trade amounts. I'd expect Geelong to get a bit more than pick 27 in that instance. Maybe something like:
Carlton: Cerra and 34 for 6 and 25
Freo: Clark and 6 for Cerra and 27
Geelong: 25 and 27 for Clark and 34

Throwing a spanner in the works however, AFL Media’s Mitch Cleary reports that Clark may be holding off on lodging an official request after the departure of defensive coach and Cats great Matthew Scarlett.
“Jordan Clark is contracted for one more season at the Cats. He hasn’t been able to play in that defensive system because my understanding is Matthew Scarlet hasn’t wanted to play him there,” Cleary said on AFL Trade Radio.
“He’s been a non-believer in Jordan Clark as a defender in that side. That’s why you’ve seen Jordan Clark try and play on the wing, and even as a small forward this season.
“It hasn’t worked. He’s a halfback or even a wingman and that’s where he played his best footy in his last year as a junior and his first year at the Cats when he burst onto the scene.”
Freo getting ripped in that deal, Cerra is worth more than 6(8) by himself. Geelong making out like bandits for a player they clearly haven't rated this year.
Make it a Future 4th and 5th before you tease us
You never quite know when you’ll need picks 66 and 85 in a draft. I mean there’s only about 60 picks and a few recycles actually taken in a draft.
