Possibly, but if he’s gone 95% of the way I’d be surprised if he doesn’t then leave.

I think he can see a regular spot in our team + more dollars. It’s done for mine.

Dollars are an issue for all players but we are going to have a lot of retirements the next 2 years so its not like we cant offer him a pay rise.
Gametime is the bigger issue he sees a regular spot at freo and might not think he will get at it geelong.
But scarlett clearly prefers a certain type and clark doesnt fit that under new coaches that could all change..with 12 months under a new coach who plays him he might be happy to stay and geelong might back themselves in to do that.

Put yourself in his shoes. Would you hang around and hope it comes good?

He’s Fremantle bound, that seems obvious.

I’d imagine clubs are a tad more proactive in discussions these days. If it comes out that Clark requests a trade, then I’d imagine the clubs would’ve agreed on principle, which would include worth.

I doubt he requests a trade and the sticking point is pick 27 or the hypothetical 20 Geelong want.

If Geelong said 20 then fine. If he hasn’t released formal request it may be because Fremantle won’t budge on pick 27, he may wait to see who new backline coach is or whatever.

Both organisations would be pretty unprofessional if Clark requests trade and then the deal can’t get done over 27 or 20.

The rest is just supporter bases puffing their chests out.

For me? Pick 27 or 25 from Carlton get it done. If Geelong need more we can swap future picks.

Im also one of a handful that is at ease to downgrade a top 10 pick to 2 around the 20s such is the evenness of the draft. One of those could go for Clark and I’d be ok with it.

I would be staggered if you guys trade down 6 or 8 as having 2 picks before WCE pick in a strong WA crop is good for you. Im sure we would take a pick in the 10-20 range but i cant see you offering it.

The caldwell deal (for a player who wasnt contracted) was picks 29 and 30 with 44 going back and i expect geelong want similar..so for eg 27 and a future 2nd for clark and a 3rd or similar is probably what they want..less than what theyd ideally like but what theyd accept. Freo might offer that (i dont know) but i doubt they split 6 or 8.

He wants to be freo bound yes but that doesnt mean he will be its still our call.

Honestly i think a new defensive coach will play him because we need transition run and he has it in spades so if i were him i would back myself to grab that spot..but im not him..i agree the lure of a 4 year guaranteed deal can be big for some players if they arent risk takers.

Surely Geelong and Freo will touch gloves and say get the Cerra deal done, which may be impacted by SPS and potentially Fisher.

When we have our known draft hand - then talk turkey to Geelong.

Clark moving or not moving is not going to be a cornerstone move...personally I think the discussions start at 27 & I wouldn't offer much more but I aint the Footy Dept.

27 is a nice pick but it doesn't in itself do a lot for the Cats unless they think packaging them may get them a bite at something bigger. Maybe Freo split 8 if they get 6.

Need to let the Cerra deal happen and then we discuss.

I wouldn’t want to give up a split pick, but think we’ll be in the market for as many top 25 picks as possible.

western Australian’s. A true gift to us all. Wrong on trades every year.

If we’ve set the bar above 27 that is what it will be.
You paid Pick 13 for Mitch McGovern...hush now
Careful. Bitter about 1995 tag will be thrown around soon. His 1-wood

Anything over a 3rd round pick for Clark is overs, although sadly it feels like that like Gold Coast, Freo almost have to pay overs to get players to their club.

Geelong would be delighted if they can get pick 27 for Clark I reckon.
...kinda like parting with Pick 8 for a one Adam Saad...

Our true gift is being able to walk to the shops mask-free. Victorians - a new form of arrogance unto themselves!

So 27, and we swap a F3 for a f4? That’s more than 27 on its own.

What a ridiculous generalisation btw. I’m pretty sure there would be very few here that would get the trade scenario correct. Regardless of what state or team they’re from/support.

I would say that 98% of us here are just throwing darts, blindfolded

Freo supporters at least facing the dartboard…

Maybe but at least Saad is a proven player at AFL player. Clark has shown very little at this stage to be anything more than a battler.

If Geelong want more than 27, walk away, even that pick is overs for a player who is looking every bit like another Stephen Wells 1st round pick draft bust .

.

He says as SPS at at Pick 6 is likely traded for a bag of chips, and Dow O'Brien look like fails too. Difference is, they're all Top 10 picks, and nowhere near as speculative as mid-late teens first rounders, which is all we've had in the past decade.

Btw, is Mitch McGovern a 'proven AFL player'? Or you just gonna gloss over that one again because it doesn't fit your narrative?

Oh, and I apologise for my generalisation about Victorians. I know the vast majority of you are abiding by the state-mandated Covid regulations and have been doing it tough for some many months. Art Vandelay_ is just a clown, and by no means a true representation of Victorians.

Think 27 is close to fair or slight overs personally regardless of the reasons given for not playing much the last few years.

Entirely Geelongs right to hold him to contract or get overs though. Freo’s right to be firm in what they are willing to pay or be prepared to walk away and leave the decision with Geelong. More players need to be held to contract IMO and more clubs need to be willing to let a trade fall through.

If I’m honest I would find it a little rich to value him so highly after not playing him

So what ? Got nothing to do with I said. Clark has not shown anything at all at this stage to prove he is worth more than a late 2nd round pick (at best)

Let's face it, if Geelong had their time over in the 2018 draft, they would not have picked Clark at 15.

Could have Duursma (for example)

He is not worth First Round Draft pick in a trade, if that is what you are implying. Far from it.
