Fortunately USA is not just NY. Pretty diverse place and folk. I spent some time in the secret south some years ago, mostly tracking some of the gothic black country scene, fantastic experience.
Don’t think you can call it that these days. Someone will be outraged.

Also related, if the 'alleged victim' pursues an allegation but the related charge is dismissed by the court, then counterclaim's have almost become a formality in the US. Once again this is plausible, not nonsense.

One final thought - if Mr DeGoey had stupidly decided to legally represent himself in these matters, which he is entitled to do, I suggest we would be having a very different conversation now...
The 'nonsense' part referred to 'victim withdrawing the charges'. She can't.

Can you show me an example of a witness being sued by someone that was found not guilty in criminal court? (Not media reporters or others)? You would need to demonstrate that the witness was knowingly lying and deliberately brought false charges to harm your reputation.

Think it’s commonplace in America that they can choose to not prosecute. Not so here.
(unless every cop show ever in the US has been lying to me for 40 years)

The police / DA can choose not to. They do it way more often if they're unlikely to win because they simply don't want to harm their win stats (because DAs need to win elections for some stupid reason). So if the witness says 'I'm not going to testify' 99% of the time charges will be dropped. But the witness themselves don't prosecute charges. (though a 'private prosecution' can also occur in the absence of police action, but they are not possible in New York).

Australian but pretty sure close to universal:
If you do decide you want to withdraw a complaint, you start the process at a police station....It is commonly believed that charges will automatically be ‘dropped’ once this happens. However, this is not true. It is always up to police or the prosecution to decide whether the charges will continue. In some cases, they may consider that they have sufficient evidence and that it is in the public interest to proceed, regardless of the complainant’s wishes

He's completely messed up. He had some positive news the previous week for the work he was doing in America to prepare himself, and now this.
If true, getting the arse from Collingwood may be the last thing on his mind, but in the United States, these things aren't usually swept under the rug. A judge in New York isn't going to give a damn who he is.

I don't care how good my clubs culture is at the moment. I'd have DeGoey at the dees if he came for me. Having him and Fritsch and Pickett up forward with Ben Brown would be amazeballs.

The best clubs can turn around players, so yeah. Pies, nah.

How has he completely messed up?
