Traded Josh Battle - Joins Hawthorn as UFA

I think it's common knowledge he told the Saints at his exit interview he was staying and then reneged.

I'm not convinced it's on par with killing the Lindbergh baby but it is a dick move.
And the rest. Made an absolute dick of himself on made Monday and got so pissed he ended up in hospital the next day.

That's not what I heard. What was rumoured was that St Kilda, either before or after the exit interview, revised their offer and thought - for whatever reason - they were a genuine shot at convincing him the change his mind. He had been making all the noises indicating that he was leaving, and he left.

Sounds like the sort of harrowing stuff that really tears at the fabric of your footy club...

Perhaps not, perhaps only the acknowledgement part. BnF business was a bit harsh on Josh.
He reneged on a contract in round 2 last year. Deal agreed. Pulled out and started dining with the Hawks and specifically Mitchell a few weeks after (search Ralph’s Twitter for confirmation of a deal being close)

Proceeded to tell all at the club he was staying multiple times. Ross caught up with him a number of times alone away from the club and Josh said the same thing.

Now if he was looking for $1m plus a year from us. He was never getting that and there was a few at the saints that cottoned onto what was happening months out - hence the confidence in which I posted in this very thread it would be band 1 compo.

Telling his team mates he was staying when he knew he wasn’t and effectively said he had made his mind up last night when he walked into Waverley is a pricks move.

In the end. I believe the saints made a business decision (preferring to get band 1 because we had a shit year then pay Josh significantly more).

IMO, Both sides though won’t have come out of this well when it’s all said and done. Hence the crap with the BnF.

The “and the rest” bit has a bit on it. He isn’t the first person to leave the club but I think he was the first asked not to come back. That should say enough

You can't renege on a contract. You're either in contract or you're out. By "he reneged/pulled out", you mean he put off contract talks. Righto.

Perhaps the club should've been watching 7 news?

Your own president makes it pretty clear what happened. The club thought they could convince him to stay, and fought hard to keep him right til the end, and they didn't like it when he decided to leave.

It does. It speaks volumes as to how clunky and backwards the club is, that they couldn't manage the departure of an unrestricted free agent without destroying a relationship and setting a terrible precedent for the rest of the playing group.

Two sides to every storey but clearly you arnt willing or able to view it from another perspective. He plays for you now, enjoy him. Hopefully the Viking can become a better player. Time will tell

In my defence, it's pretty hard to view it from your perspective while you don't say what it is.

Can you see how all this innuendo is not very compelling?

Maybe Josh didn't love that time he was delisted by the club, and so when an opportunity came up to go somewhere else on good money, he took it. Maybe that's the whole story.

The only ones whining about it were Saints people wanting the AFL to give them band 1 regardless of where it actually landed.
thats the most seriously floored post ive ever seen, aside from blatant trolls, sooks were coming from everywhere, from adelaide to the western bulldogs and everyone in between, probably except for the hawks and the saints and maybe a guilty looking north melbourne(mckay)

we were anxious for band 1 yes,but thankfully we never had reason to sook, hawks got their man & the rest who are happy to bend over and watch an almost brownlow winner and his brother go to a top side and a norm smith medalist and his brother, who racks up a lazy 180 plus fantasy points in his debut,go to the premiership team because their daddys got layed, while sooking up a storm because the saints might and then did get band 1 compo for their 3rd place getter in the b n f,can go forth and multiply themselves

Why? It saved him and would have been super awkward for a guy who was now at a different club. For someone who had told his team mates he was staying 24 hours before he officially joined another club!

Josh Battle was delisted by the club?

Says who? Your president just says you were hopeful right up until he told you no.

I presumed that's why he was UFA, but turns out I was wrong. He was just being underpaid.
