We played you last week. We know he's not that good. We saw it first hand.He barely gets beaten in a 1 on 1. He wins his own ball.
He plays taller than he is. He can swing forward.
He will allow the hawks to move their exisiting players around the field.
Do you not understand how valuable all the above makes Battle to a club like the Hawks or staying at the saints?
The Hawks are just lucky we are desperate for high end mids and we have had a shit year so band 1 means a top 6 pick at worse
No, Rankine wanted to make sure that he didn't get forced into the preseason draft.Rankine said he would not leave GC unless the GC were properly compensated.
Rankines words out of his own mouth.
McKay wasn't worth it either. The entire thing was dodgy af.Unfortunately the compensation isn't tied to what you think a player is worth, it's based on where we finish. If Adelaide are concerned about their pick getting diluted, then don't finish above us on the ladder.
No one has issue really with McKay because he was probably worth a super high pick, but if North had finished minor premiers and only got pick 19 for him, no one would considered that fair. But that's how it works. See also Lance Franklin compo when he left.
You can only measure the contract against existing contracts.Yeah, I'm going to need a source for that.
Seems INCREDIBLY unlikely that the league would measure a future contract against past contracts when trying to work out what a player's value is.
I mean, they've done a LOT of dumb things, but common sense says his 2025 contract would get measured against all signed 2025 contracts when calculating a band.
They are lucky in that if this was solely all about money. We would be able to throw whatever we like without cap room.the luck is not you desperate for high picks, is you didn't pay battle enough for him to be restricted. the saints have to accept whatever the afl give them as compo as they don't have an option to match.
You'll most likely get Draper and Smith. Nailed it.He barely gets beaten in a 1 on 1. He wins his own ball.

and he aint Mckay either,he is durable, barely missed a game, while Mckay missed heck knows how many before this seasonLike I said, he ain't May.
I think its 5%.You can only measure the contract against existing contracts.
So what is the highest average salary of the top 10% of AFL paid players in 2024.
That’s how you measure compensation for a free agent.
What players are paid next year and beyond is irrelevant. The contract of the free agent is measured against the average guaranteed salary of existing deals.
Because each new free agent would impact the very next player leaving after them if it is based on what people are paid in 2025 and beyond.
I.e Perryman signs with a new club first would Infact impact Battle if it was based of 2025 and beyond salaries. But this isn’t a consideration as it’s based on salaries from 2024
Rubbish.
He's a solid battler. He's not Weitering.
No current season stats available
Agree. Let him stayThere really does seem to be 0 incentive for hawks to offer enough to trigger band 1 compo. He’s an unrestricted free agent and we would be downgrading our own first round pick by doing so.
Agree. Let him stay
Great. Glad we could be of assistanceI'd be happy with that.
Yikes.
Doing the right thing by the Saints. What a load of rot!!!!
He'd sign with them now or earlier if that was true.
It is about getting the best deal for Battle. Not Saints or Hawks.
That's his prerogative.
So you're basing your entire opinion of a tall defender off the wettest game played this year? Seems maybe a tad biased to me.We played you last week. We know he's not that good. We saw it first hand.
Agree. Let him stay
Problem is we ain’t paying a million a season- no matter how much the media nuffies talk it up.
Will be 800k for 6 years which won’t trigger band one- bit cruel to get Ain’ts supporters hopes up again- haven’t they already had enough pain…
