I remember him having a much, much better mark of the ball
He took 7 contested marks in two individual games last year, and 43 in total.

So far this year he's taken just 7 from 8 games!!

So he's on track to take less than half the number he took last year.

In the second half of last season he was also right back to his very best, 50-goal-a-year footy (kicking 23 goals in his last 10 games), and his kicking for goal was generally excellent for us, so I'm not sure what the Dogs have done to him.

I haven't seen him outside of when we played them, but someone on our board said that it looks like he's bulked up, and is playing more of a stay-at-home role, so perhaps all that just isn't working for him, and he's lost all confidence.

Then there's the fact very few key forwards are going well this year for any team.

He isnt clunking any marks atm. He is consistantly double grabbing them which allows defenders to punch to away on the second attempt. Out ball use has been deplorable but he hasnt at all been good. Still provides a contest but we expect more

Not going great but with the lack of service and other capable forwards, it's not too surprising. Kicked 2 of our 7 goals last night and he can't be to blame.

Currently 2nd in our goalkicking and if it weren't for him coming, we would've had Ryan Gardner or Lewis Young playing as our key forward...

Looks unfit.

Naughton's injury has hurt him badly also.

Right now he's playing in arguably the worst forward line in the comp so that isn't really helping his cause.

He could do much much better though.
Not sure how you can say Naughton's injury has hurt him?

He averaged 1.5 marks and 0.5 goals a game while Naughton wad in the side.

If anything he's actually improved dramatically since then.

Looking pretty ordinary though I must admit.

What is strange is that Schache was in very good form for the second half of last year. He ended up averaging more goals a game then Bruce did.

So the dogs traded in a 28 year old to take his place who was scoring kicking less goals than a 22 year old.

Think the Saints will be pretty happy with the trade tbh.

He got them the pick that got Zak Jones as well as the pick that got them a young kid that has already debuted.
Win win

Schache is a finisher, unless the ball is on a platter he does nothing. Offers no physical presence, no defensive pressure, no contested marking threat.

We haven't been under the roof of Marvel and flying like we were at the end of last year either. Hard to compare to last year.

Granted Bruce has been underwhelming. But he's a much better option than Schache.

Schache only 22 though.

You'd think if you have a key forward of that age that was kicking that many goals you'd just pump games into him and let him develop, yet he can't even get a game with Naughton out.

Seems puzzling to me, even if he does have those issues.

We got badly bullied by GWS in that semi final. Schache was one of those players. Easily bodied and lacks any sort of burst speed to get much seperation.

In wet slippery conditions at Metricon (all night games are basically wet weather in qld with the dew), Schache really doesn't offer much. Conditions has hurt him as well.

In terms of non efforts (tackling, chasing), Schache is right up there with the worst of the lot and with how easily we can be opened up on the counter, he simply can't be played.

Naughton in comparison is excellent at defensive pressure for his size.

Not that I have seen a great deal of it with us but I remember Bruce making several good defensive efforts when he was at the saints.

I agree in principle with what you're saying but I should note that in pre-season the talk was that we'd be trying to play with 3 talls in the forward line. Of course I wouldn't expect opposition fans to know this and we've had injuries to Schache and Naughton since, so we haven't been able to try it during the season.

Round 1 we played with Lewis Young, Naughton and Bruce. Just were smashed in the midfield against Collingwood so they had no hope.
