Hopefully it’s fitness related but his disposal is horrible, going at 37% at afl level and probably close to that at vfl level. Needs to stop turning the ball over constantly to have a long career.
Especially needs to tidy up his handball game

It’s both disposal and decision making that needs work. Not easy to fix both, but when you’ve got the likes of Pendles around to learn from up close, it can be done.

Bianco is one who has really good decision making but also lacks the actual execution to pull off what he’s trying to.

Hopefully we are spending enough time on these kids during the off season in developing that part of their game.

Was playing country footy 12 months ago. Half a dozen games in the SANFL and then finds himself playing AFL.

I think fitness is his main issue. He has shown he can make good decisions and kick the ball well. Maybe gets a little scrappy when he runs out of gas.

An AFL pre-season or 2 as a professional athlete and I would expect he will improve out of site.

I agree with this most of the time, but the problem is you look at the Poulter thread right now… he got himself senior action, then got himself an AFL pre-season but has regressed.

There’s no guarantee an AFL pre-season or better fitness means he automatically improves.

I have more faith in Carmichael as he seems like a kid who has his head screwed on, but there are skills people have, and some that they don’t.

Hopefully I’m wrong and he does get better with his execution and decision making because he could be so bloody dangerous for us with a better DE.

Poulter’s disposal wasn’t any better last year.

Yes it does, especially in repeat sprint efforts. JC is a mature body who has a lot of good attributes, he can't put in repeat efforts due to coming from a long way back. you can usually tell the ones who will benefit from a full pre season

My favourite thing about him is that in his 10 or so games with us, he’s had a shot at goal 9 out of 10 games.

When he plays a full game, he’s very likely to have 2 shots on goal.

That’s amazing from a midfielder considering how far back he’s coming from.

With another preseason under his belt he could average a goal per game as a mid.

Yep this. Goal kicking mids are like gold.

I hope you’re right. Like I said, will be an absolute bull for us if he can tidy up these couple of aspects of his game.

Lack of elite fitness would affect his decision making if he’s heavily fatigued, so I’d expect a proper preseason will do him wonders.

Decision making is at least something that can be improved with experience, I remember Scott Thompson was a horrible decision maker at Melbourne but turned into a very good player at the Crows.

Also been learning game plan on the run. A full preseason of education will also help him considerably.

He needs to tidy things up but I think there’s reason for the untidiness. Eager to see his output next year.

His kicking is actually pretty good as evidenced by the goals he's kicked.
Where he's struggled a little is with kicks under pressure.
Once he's learnt the game plan better & had a full preseason his disposal shortcomings should improve.
He's far from the finished product.

There's no doubt that at least one full pre-season will benefit this lad, not only from a fitness perspective but also strength. He plays like a kid who has dominated at junior level but his methods are being subdued in the big league. When he develops the core strength to muscle his way through traffic, and he has the endurance to combat fatigue-related decision-making and disposal issues, he will be a proper gun. I have faith that this lad will improve significantly in the next two-to-three seasons. Dare I say it, he will become the gin mid that we all hoped from Sier.

He's already a powerful unit, so he's only going to get stronger.
Someone posted a short video of him in a VFL game giving an opposition player who tried to tackle him a "don't argue", basically just pushed him over and out of the way.
More please Josh!

Nothing about him is a surprise. Obviously, fitness is a concern and speed was a weakness identified early. However, this can all be improved with a few training sessions. Over the pre-season, the team will be on to him and he'll likely start early.

I think we play him as the medi-sub as he can cover the run of most players.

Plus he has runs on the board as being a match-winning medisub! He’d be a handy last quarter inclusion against a bigger, stronger Cats side if we had an injury.

I love his instincts. He wants to take the game on and bang it in there. That may not always be the best option, but his mindset is oozing confidence and aggression. If he sets himself for a huge preseason, he could cement a place in a very good line up.

Had a Thought could he be a Replacement for Henry as simmlar Height and Carmicheal shows he can kick a Goal?

Doesn’t have the same marking ability

Might come in though and play limited mid minutes then rest forward… until his tank and all round game improves

Mitchell’s inclusion to the team probably takes opportunity away from Carmichael in the short to mid term…

But positively it buys Carmichael, McInness and Macrae another 12-18 months to work on their game in the VFL

I actually see McInness as more likely to play that role than Carmichael. He looked like he had some potential as a marking forward before he got injured and he also has the height (194cm) to be a marking target.

I think Reef has quite a lot of potential to be a really interesting player. Really fast, tall, and strong enough (for a kid).
