I think there are traits there.

He is a good kick of the footy, he isn't quick but has a turn of pace, and he is a pretty good tackler. Confidence can be an amazing thing. he looked a million bucks over the off-season, but just hasn't been able to break into the side. He'll get opportunity now, and just needs to feel as if he belongs at the level.

Agree - he just needs confidence.

He is an elite kick - and you don’t throw away elite kicks because they are rare and can turn a game.

I dont think Nathan trust our younger players enough.

He constantly backs in Greenwood or Mayne when we really need to breathe some new life into some spots in this team.

Stephenson is an exception—and look how long it’s raken Quaynor to get a game this season when you can see he’s a player.

Naming players such as Crocker or Wills too is just ao deflating.

Josh looks bereft of confidence—when we should have been getting games into our younger guys earlier in the year where our wins were masking our sputtering form line.

Exactly.

I've been saying it for so long that we simply won't turn our form around because we've been leaving out of form players in for too long which leads to disenchanted VFL players bereft of confidence.

Josh should have been coming in earlier in the season when there were more stars around him and playing in a winning team. Now he becomes the fall guy of a losing side despite other senior players playing terribly.

He is arguably the best field kick in our team. Even on Friday he was the only one consistently hitting targets by foot, over any distance.

Greenwood has been outstanding this year. I get your point but it’s a bad example

He will come good, it’s a bit of a slow burn with Josh but there will be a breakout game with him where he starts to believe in himself. The talent is there, the belief needs to come.

By talent is there do u mean he sometimes has good kicks? Because he looks to be awful at contested balls, marking and tackling. Plus he doesn't appear to have much pace speed or strength.

His kicking will need to be a serious weapon for him to make it

Some of the people here scratching their faces off about Daicos not being a world-beater so far are the same people who were clamoring for him to come into the side a month ago. Who would've thought a bloke who has played a dozen or so AFL games without much continuity, including not coming in until the second half of the season and still being in and out of the side, would be struggling to find some form while he adjusts?

He's still a kid. He's shown he has the skills, give him time and he'll be fine.

Players always develop quicker in a winning side. Let's not crucify him for not being a world beater in an underperforming side.

I think he has above average vision and is an above average kick. I would say his pace is league average.

I would say strength and tackling ability, overhead ability would be weaknesses.

Has quite a bit to prove without being hopeless.
He's an outside mid, who gets played as a small forward and just doesn't have the pace for the role or enough tricks to compensate. Needs to be popped on a wing, but so does half our team.

This seems to be problem with a lot of our fringe players, they are recruited as midfielders and then are played as small forwards which hinders their development, I think we should be trying to draft more specialist small forwards or defenders rather than midfielders

Only had 4 kicks on Friday night, and of his 11 disposals, 4 of them were clangers.

No they weren’t. I literally watched 2 hit the target so someone is making stuff up at champion data.

Go watch the replay yourself.

2 of his 4 kicks, not exactly enormous. And the clanger tally does include both kicks & handballs.

He's a poor footballer IMO, who I'd say has missed his chance.

Whether that is a combination of poor management/limited ability is a different question all together.

You could be right that ultimately he doesn't make it LP, but I wouldn't call Josh a poor footballer; it's an unfair assessment of his ability.

I've seen him play since his colt days and can tell you that he isn't slow, has a solid kick, great hands, and very good awareness. Needs more power, a stronger tackle, and to improve his overhead. Some of his skills, even as he is now, are not in abundance at the club.

If you're going to hit me with his stats from last week, I have no retort. :)

I think the problem, Jathanas, is when you're of a certain size (he is no monster) you need to have serious tricks. I'm really not sure he has any in his arsenal. He appears to be a decent enough kick, but that won't cut it.

I do hope I'm wrong, as it'll probably means he's involved in some success at the club.

COUGH Tony Shaw GOUGH . . COUGH COUGH Nick Maxwell COUGH COUGH - both written off by all and sundry.

It doesn't pay to generalize at times.

Did you read my post?

Tony Shaw had an incredible appetite for the contest, and ball-winning ability.

Nick Maxwell was an elite leader of men who had a desire to get the utmost out of himself.

I'd call them 'serious tricks' - as per my post.

And you DID NOT read my post . . .

BOTH were written off before they played game one - MAXWELL especially.

Just as you are writing young Josh off

You may prove to be correct but that will be proven over time not by bellicose look at me posts.

Its a football forum, where people talk football, and you know....express opinions.

Had a very cordially discussion with Jathanas - and you come in Grandstanding.

Really not necessary.
