Player Watch Josh Daicos

Hi Pies fans just posted on the Callam Brown thread.

Sorry to intrude; just popped over to wish the young Daicos all the best.

Grew up watching his dad do battle against the blues; was constantly amazed by his skills and match winning abilities.

Look forward to the silvagni's (Ben's up next year I think) v brown/daicos/moore for years to come.

A Daicos at pick 57, well worth the shot!

Will not be criticising the club if he doesn't make it.

No 1 No 57 means jack shit, how many Brownlow's and premierships do Delidlio, Reiwoldt, Murphy, Gibbs Kreuzer **** all

Pick 58 D Swan has one of each. Hard work, talent, and a little luck will hopefully see this new Daicos rise to be the Prince of the Macedonian King.

Welcome Josh.

It's a shame Peter Daicos is mainly known for his mercurial skills around goal because he was something special in the midfield.

With footage being readily available, as it is today, we'd see things like him turning four players inside out and firing a left foot pass down the throat of a forward. There's a shit load more.

I remember the late Trevor Barker, who did a lot more than just take high marks, saying (paraphrasing) that when Daicos had the ball, it was futile chasing the forward target because you'd have no chance of spoiling. No matter where he was, how much traffic he was on or in what direction he was running, if he had a target, he hit it.

He not only did what was expected, he did it in a way that few players could. We salivate over the skills of Rioli, the spatial awareness of Pendles and the setting up of play by Mitchell. Daicos was all of that rolled into one.
He really was something else, Peter.
One thing perhaps to mention, on memory Pete was pretty stunning from the get go.
I so clearly remember an army reserves game (as the reserves was called then) and young Peter was already sublime.
You'd wet your pants if you saw it.
Wow, he was something else.

In the history of football, there was NO ONE I repeat NO ONE who kicked more miracle goals than him.

He was the GREATEST EVER miracle goal kicker in the games history. By far!

I just had to say that. Absolute elite!

Welcome to your club Josh.

Or, thanks for staying at Collingwood Josh.

An ex of my mum would speak about Peter Daicos with much admiration and we'd watch a Collingwood video with Daics' magic on show.

I was too young to understand the contribution Daics made to the sport.

Love family connections in sport.

Welcome.

Having floated back to earth after the excitement of Friday night, what I'm seeing with Josh is a skinny young kid with promise and enormous expectations, who's been drafted into a club with a fierce spotlight.

I think we (me!) need to be patient with him; he is an investment in the future and will take time to come on. His dad is a kind and sensible man, who will no doubt help ease Josh into the craziness of playing for Collingwood. In the interviews Peter describes him as a quiet kid, who turned 18 yesterday. Its a tough ask for a kid. Hope he can stay out of the spotlight for a while yet.

I hope the club makes young Daics grow a mullet.

Watching this kid line up, hopefully the club comes to its senses and gives him 35, with a mullet brushing against the number 35 would be a sight to behold.

Can't wait to see these kids in action.

Let's be honest, he has the same scope to develop as most of the draft class based on his age... He is only a few months younger than most of them...

An age gap of a few months can be meaningful in junior terms. It can be the difference between Brayden Sier who was 17 on draft night and Darcy Moore who was 8 or so weeks shy of 19.

They catch up quickly once in the system, but the younger players in the draft pool have always presented that extra scope for growth because they don't get trapped in the system like Clem Smith did.

People shouldn't underestimate genes when it comes to assessing one's ceiling. For those of us old and lucky enough to have seen Peter play, the prospect of Josh channeling some of that talent is tantalising.

My son played with Josh in Colts, so I've seen the kid. If I was to find a likeness to a player we know it would be Medhurst. Can kick a goal, can pivot, and is good off the ground. Hopefully we will develop him enough for some work in the middle too.

So awesome that he's a Collingwood player. :rainbow:

Except for the time he spent in the midfield, his father often didnt get lot's of possessions. But when 2 of 3 kicks in a premiership team are freak goals, you can forgive his absence from play.
Elite!
Superstar.

There might be a myth he didn't get so many possessions. That's not so for his era.

4500 possessions in 250 games or 18 possessions per game. Very nice numbers.

2.2 goals a game.

If you watch the interview between Brown and Moore he actually says he so far has wanted 4 due to Didak being his favourite player.
Good luck prying it from Grundy...

You are correct. I checked the stats and discovered that apart from his last year, he accumulated a lot of possessions. I thought he had some lean years due to his feet problems and later his age, but the stats don't support my memory.

As a midfielder Daicos was a ball magnet. Still trying to decide whether it was a shame his knees forced him to go forward or a blessing.

In my view and by a long stretch

The greatest miracle goal kicker in history.

Something else

That's an incredible question.
Was something else.

Folks, I may wax lyrical about Daicos but I'm restraining myself.

Just elite!
Sublime.

Always think if Phil Carman had Daicos temperament what could have been?

Answer: flags that's what, flags!

I reckon he was just playing it down (wearing 26).
He probably doesn't know as yet. Although assume the club will talk to him about it soon.
I assume he gets first crack at it.
I already like him better than Marley Williams.
But I'm fickle ;)
